PlayStation to launch new Crunchyroll anime hub for PS5. Thursday, 08 October 2026 - 11:54 Sony's PlayStation will launch a new Crunchyroll anime hub within its PlayStation 5 gaming console's home screen next year to more closely align the company's anime projects and anime-inspired games. Launching in spring 2027, the new PS5 anime destination is "designed to make it easier for the PlayStation community to discover and explore the anime content they enjoy," per Sony Interactive Entertainment. While Crunchyroll has been accessible on the PS5 via an app since the gaming console was released in 2020, the goal here is to make Crunchyroll an integral part of a PlayStation user's home-screen experience. "Anime and gaming have deeply engaged and overlapping fan communities, and the new experience will bring those worlds closer together on PS5," the Crunchyroll announcement reads. "Whether longtime anime fans or discovering a series through a game, character or world they already love, players will have a dedicated place to discover anime and anime-inspired games and easily access the full Crunchyroll app. The PS5-Crunchyroll news was announced Wednesday by PlayStation president and CEO Hideaki Nishino at the inaugural Crunchyroll Anime Future Forum, where Sony also unveiled its new Crunchyroll Storyworks division. "From Crunchyroll membership on PlayStation, to the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime series," Crunchyroll president Rahul Purini said. "Today, we take that partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment one step further with an anime hub on PlayStation. Serving fans means meeting them where they already are." The Crunchyroll-PlayStation integration comes on the heels of Sony launching "Live TV on PS5," an offering of more than 100 free ad-supported video channels available via the PlayStation 5 video game console. The PlayStation 5 FAST channel offering debuted in August and Sony Pictures Television has plans to expand it globally in the coming months.

Here are the first details: Sony Interactive Entertainment will introduce a new dedicated anime space within the PlayStation 5 home experience, bringing together anime, anime-inspired games, and easy access to Crunchyroll. Launching next spring, the new anime destination is designed to make it easier for the PlayStation community to discover and explore the anime content they enjoy. PlayStation Portal OLED model hinted at in new Wi-Fi Alliance filings by Sony. Fresh rumours on the PlayStation Portal OLED model have surfaced online this week with two registrations - CFI-Y2000 and CFI-Y2105 - made by Sony Interactive Entertainment on Wi-Fi Alliance last month very likely to be the new device. In case you haven't been keeping up, respected hardware insider Kepler_L2 stated back in January that Sony was working on an OLED version of PS Portal for release in late 2026. The registrations above are unlikely to be related to the current model, as the existing PS Portal models are in the CFI-Y1000 series, while the above listings are CFI-2000. So, the chances of them being the OLED mode are pretty high. Nothing official has been announced by Sony yet, so treat this as a rumour for the time being. PS Portal arrived in November 2023 and uses Wi-Fi to allow users to stream their PS5 games to the device, essentially turning it into a handheld console While it launched at a fairly expensive price point, that didn't stop PS Portal from going on to sell pretty strongly, to the point where Sony's Takruo Fushimi said response to the device has been 'overwhelming.' A major update last November saw Cloud Streaming made available for users, where select PS5 digital games from your library could be streamed provided you are subscribed to PS Plus.
