Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Hold current appropriate state licensure and meet practice requirements in all states where employed.
  • Hold or successfully complete CPR Basic Life Support certification.
  • Have a minimum of 9 months of experience as a Registered Nurse; 12 months is preferred.
  • Have less than 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience for entry-level RN placement.
  • Complete 6 months of acute dialysis experience for Nurse in Charge designation; acute dialysis experience is also preferred.
  • Complete all Fresenius Kidney Care education and modality-specific training requirements before being assigned Nurse in Charge oversight.
  • Be able to provide direct patient care involving heavy lifting, patient transfers, ambulation assistance, prolonged standing, bending, and occasional movement of equipment up to 200 pounds.
  • Be able to work in an environment with potential exposure to infectious and contagious diseases or materials.
  • Be available for required travel between assigned facilities and to training or meeting sites.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation, including nights, weekends, holidays, or other program-defined periods.
Responsibilities
  • Provide and coordinate clinically competent care for an assigned group of inpatient patients, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
  • Collect and analyze patient data before, during, and after treatment; document findings in the medical record; modify treatment plans as indicated; and notify appropriate clinical personnel.
  • Assess, collaborate on, and document patients' and families' learning needs, and provide initial and ongoing education.
  • Recognize abnormal patient-status findings and report or collaborate with appropriate health-team members.
  • Direct and provide safe, effective patient care for assigned patients according to prescribed modality-specific treatment procedures.
  • Assess daily patient-care needs and collaborate with direct and ancillary patient-care staff.
  • Coordinate communication with Fresenius Kidney Care and non-Fresenius dialysis providers and contracted facility personnel to provide continuity of care.
  • Implement, administer, monitor, and document patients' responses to prescribed intradialytic transfusions, including notification of physicians and blood suppliers about adverse reactions.
  • Administer prescribed medications and document medical justification and effectiveness.
  • Initiate and assist with emergency response measures.
  • Serve as a resource for the healthcare team and participate in staff training and orientation of new staff as assigned.
  • Provide specialized nursing-care instruction to hospital or facility staff when contractually required.
  • Assist in an outpatient facility when assigned.
  • Complete Clinical Advancement Program requirements to advance.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Provide designated Nurse in Charge oversight of Patient Care Technicians, Licensed Vocational Nurses/Licensed Practical Nurses, and Registered Nurses after completing required training and experience.
