Requirements
  • A Master's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Health Science or a related field.
  • Graduation from a Physician Assistant Program approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.
  • Certification from the National Commission for Certification by Physician Assistants.
  • New Jersey licensure from the State Board of Medical Examiners-Physician Advisory Committee.
Responsibilities
  • Facilitate and assist in ensuring a seamless admission and discharge process.
  • Perform patient admission workups, including physical examinations, obtaining and recording histories, obtaining consents, and assisting with surgical procedures as necessary.
  • Make daily rounds and examine patients under the direction of attending physicians, making necessary chart entries, including pre- and post-procedure orders, transfer orders, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Provide patient and family education and counseling in conjunction with the healthcare team.
  • Perform duties required by the supervising physician, including blood drawing, intravenous placement, wound care, incision and drainage of abscesses, first and second assisting in the operating room, and direct patient care in hospital and office settings.
  • Establish or contribute to an effective performance improvement program for gynecology patients consistent with the overall University Hospital Performance Improvement Plan.
  • Write appropriate medical orders for patients following acceptable medical standards and ensure that orders are co-signed in compliance with New Jersey regulations and hospital policy.
  • Perform duties required by the supervising physician in accordance with statutes and regulations governing the practice of physician assistants promulgated by the New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety.
