Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree or four years of equivalent experience is required.
  • Five years of progressive healthcare industry experience, preferably in a hospital or major medical center clinical setting, is required.
  • Three years of experience in systems deployment as a clinical analyst, business analyst, or systems analyst is required, including designing, configuring, training, implementing, and supporting clinical systems applications.
  • Proficient knowledge of and ability to employ systems analysis concepts, techniques, industry best practices, tools, and standards.
  • Proficient knowledge of and ability to employ software quality assurance and testing concepts, techniques, industry best practices, tools, and standards.
  • Proficient knowledge of and ability to work with software development life cycle concepts.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, especially active listening and writing.
  • Epic application-specific certification must be obtained within six months.
Responsibilities
  • Develop Epic application solutions and solutions for other third-party clinical systems by investigating processes and understanding data and communications flow across tasks and transactions.
  • Fulfill multiple roles throughout the development, implementation, management, and ongoing support of clinical information systems.
  • Work with Epic project application analysts and clinical leaders to translate business needs into electronic medical record functionality.
  • Participate in developing workflows, configuring systems, documenting changes, and training staff on Epic clinical application functionality.
  • Analyze procedures and problems within manual and automated healthcare systems, report findings, and recommend resolutions when applicable.
  • Formulate system scope and objectives, confer with professional staff to determine requirements, and assist in completing programming specifications.
  • Stay current with the system or application and interface with departmental and external analysts.
  • Independently complete project tasks, including building system components; testing; documenting workflows and project information; supporting implementation; maintaining Epic clinical system software; building data sets, master files, and reports; performing quality assurance and integrated testing; releasing functionality to end users; reviewing vendor software releases and updates; and providing 24/7 on-call problem management and resolution for clinical systems.
  • Interact independently with clients and use critical thinking and follow-through to develop solutions to identified issues.
  • Build and maintain workflows to support federal incentive programs, including Meaningful Use, rapidly adjust systems to improve compliance with federal initiatives, and report outcomes related to patient safety and quality.
  • Establish credibility with clinical providers and build problem-solving partnerships with customers and colleagues.
Desired Qualifications
  • A preferred degree in health care administration, clinical information systems, informatics, information technology, or sciences.
  • Healthcare operations background.
  • Knowledge of hospital healthcare operations, including clinical and business workflow analysis for developing electronic solutions within assigned applications.
  • Hands-on Epic clinical systems experience with appropriate Epic training in at least one area.
  • Technical administrative experience with Epic clinical applications, including master file maintenance and clinical build such as smart sets, order sets, and documentation flowsheets.
  • Experience supporting Epic clinical systems, including design, build, and validation.
  • Experience in project planning and procedural analysis.
