Requirements
  • Graduation from a nurse anesthesia educational program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs or its predecessor.
  • Current appropriate state licensure and compliance with applicable state statutory and regulatory requirements concerning Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists.
  • Current Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification.
  • Current certification or recertification by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists.
  • Eligibility for medical malpractice insurance at the limits required by the institution or state.
  • Eight to twelve years of related experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Competence performing as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist in a clinical setting.
  • Proficiency operating anesthesia equipment and providing perioperative or operating room support to patients.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Ability to provide age- and population-appropriate patient care.
  • Knowledge of growth and development principles across the lifespan.
  • Knowledge of infection control practices.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow facility policies and procedures.
  • Ability to lift objects over 50 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct pre-anesthesia evaluations, obtain informed consent, and develop anesthesia care plans.
  • Select and administer anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, and fluids; manage anesthesia equipment and perform safety checks.
  • Administer anesthesia and sedation, manage airways, and ensure safe anesthesia delivery during procedures.
  • Monitor patient condition, maintain time-based records, and adjust care to maintain stability during intraoperative and peri-anesthetic periods.
  • Manage patient emergence and recovery, provide follow-up care, and discharge patients from the post-anesthesia unit.
  • Implement pain management strategies, including regional anesthesia and interventional procedures.
  • Stabilize patients during emergencies by providing airway, cardiovascular, and respiratory support.
  • Ensure patient safety, comply with applicable standards, participate in quality initiatives, and collaborate with healthcare teams.
  • Care for patients of all acuity levels across surgical, obstetrical, diagnostic, therapeutic, and pain-management procedures.
  • Lift and position patients and work on the feet for the majority of the time.
  • Use protective gear in procedure rooms when required and work in an environment with potential exposure to infectious diseases, contagious materials, and radiation.
