Requirements
  • At least 1 year of work experience in a 0.6 full-time-equivalent Operating Room Assistant position at MUSC Charleston or 1 year of patient care work experience in a healthcare facility; alternatively, a college degree, active enrollment in nursing school with completion of Nursing Fundamentals from an accredited institution, active enrollment in a healthcare-related field from an accredited institution, or Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or equivalent training.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification or American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification is required, with certification required within 2 weeks of hire and maintained thereafter.
  • Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors, working from elevated areas, and working in confined or cramped spaces.
  • Ability to perform job functions from kneeling positions, bend at the waist, squat, perform repetitive motions with the hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders, and reach in all directions.
  • Good finger dexterity and full use of both legs, hands, and arms.
  • Ability to lift and carry 15 pounds unassisted and lift or lower 15-pound objects between the floor, 36 inches, and overhead unassisted.
  • Ability to maintain corrected 20/40 vision, recognize objects close at hand or at a distance, match or discriminate between colors where applicable, determine distance and spatial relationships through depth perception, and maintain hearing acuity with correction.
  • Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements, work in a latex-safe environment, and maintain required tactile and olfactory sensory functions where applicable.
  • Ability to be physically qualified for respirator use initially and as required where applicable.
  • Ability to work irregular hours, rotating shifts, weekends, holiday call, and disaster teams.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in providing direct patient care under the direction and supervision of licensed personnel.
  • Perform tasks required for daily operating-room unit functions.
