About the company

Axogen develops and sells surgical solutions specifically for repairing peripheral nerve damage. The company’s products, such as the Avance Nerve Graft, work by using processed human donor tissue to bridge gaps in severed nerves, while its Axoguard line provides protective wraps and connectors to shield nerves during the healing process. Unlike traditional methods that require a second surgery to harvest a patient's own healthy nerve, Axogen provides ready-to-use grafts that eliminate additional surgical trauma and potential lasting damage at a donor site. The company's goal is to provide surgeons with a comprehensive platform of clinically proven tools to restore nerve function and improve the quality of life for patients with nerve injuries.

Axogen closes $200M BioCircuit deal, adding first sutureless nerve-repair device.

Axogen closes $200M BioCircuit deal, adding first sutureless nerve-repair device. Published on October 05, 2026 Axogen has finalized its $200 million acquisition of BioCircuit Technologies, a privately held medical device maker whose flagship product, NerveTape, is billed as the first FDA-cleared sutureless device for repairing severed peripheral nerves. The deal closed October 1, bringing a new surgical tool into the hands of a company that already bills itself as a global leader in restoring peripheral nerve function. Axogen first announced the agreement on September 10, saying it had entered into a definitive deal to acquire BioCircuit for $200 million in cash at closing, subject to customary adjustments, according to Axogen investor relations. At the time, the company said it expected the transaction to close in the fourth quarter, with the deal contingent on customary closing conditions, including completion of BioCircuit's electronics business spin-out. The agreement had already been approved by the boards of directors of both companies, per the same filing. The acquisition closed faster than the original fourth-quarter timeline suggested, with Axogen confirming completion on October 1, as reported by BioSpace. BioCircuit, based in Atlanta, Georgia, develops and commercializes medical devices for peripheral nerve repair and neuromodulation, the outlet noted. NerveTape, the company's signature device, is designed to simplify and enhance peripheral nerve repair procedures for surgeons treating transected nerves. What the deal means for Axogen's bottom line. Axogen expects BioCircuit to contribute roughly $6 million in fourth-quarter 2026 revenue and approximately $34 million in 2027 revenue, according to a report from Quiver Quant. That projected contribution was not part of the full-year 2026 guidance Axogen had most recently issued, which called for at least 24% revenue growth, the outlet noted. The company said it continues to expect gross margin of at least 73% and to remain free cash positive for the full year. Axogen had also said the deal is expected to be accretive to revenue growth, adjusted EBITDA margin, and adjusted earnings per share within the first year after closing, while the company maintains positive free cash flow, per Axogen investor relations. Taken together, the figures suggest Axogen is betting NerveTape can scale quickly inside its existing surgical sales channels rather than simply adding a one-off product line. Foley Hoag's role in closing the deal. The law firm Foley Hoag served as legal advisor to Axogen throughout the transaction, a role the firm detailed in its own account of the deal published Friday. Foley Hoag said its deal team was led by partner Mark Haddad of the firm's Boston office, with partners Earl Mellott, Allison Anderson, John Harre, Janine Ladislaw, and Barbara Klepper also involved, according to Foley Hoag. Associates Nitzan Fisher Conforti, Lee Ramati, Ariel Chen, Hannah Melville, and Alexandra Levay rounded out the team, the firm said, drawing on attorneys based in its Boston, New York, and Washington, D.C. offices. Axogen, which trades on the Nasdaq under the ticker AXGN, describes itself as a global leader in developing and marketing surgical solutions for the restoration of peripheral nerve function. With NerveTape now folded into its portfolio, the company has expanded its lineup of nerve repair technologies beyond the suture-based approaches that have long defined the field. A new option for nerve repair surgery. What makes NerveTape notable to surgeons is its sutureless approach. Rather than requiring stitches to rejoin a severed nerve, the device is positioned as a faster, simpler alternative, an incremental but meaningful shift for operating rooms handling peripheral nerve injuries. A U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance document for the device describes it as indicated for repair of peripheral nerve discontinuities where gap closure can be achieved by flexion, though the publicly available excerpt of that filing cuts off before detailing the rest of the indication's full scope. For now, the deal's immediate impact is financial and strategic: Axogen gains a cleared device with projected near-term revenue, while BioCircuit's technology moves from a privately held startup into the hands of a Nasdaq-listed company with an established surgical sales network. Whether NerveTape reshapes nerve repair surgery as broadly as its first-of-its-kind FDA clearance suggests will likely play out over the next several fiscal quarters, as Axogen's own revenue projections for 2027 come into focus.
