Requirements
  • A quantitatively oriented advanced degree, such as in epidemiology, statistics, economics, or a related field.
  • Substantial professional experience in the vaccination landscape, broadly defined.
  • Experience in epidemiological or health economics modeling, and/or in program implementation or funding.
Responsibilities
  • Create and lead ambitious research agendas related to GiveWell's vaccination portfolios.
  • Identify the research questions that matter most for vaccination grantmaking.
  • Conduct empirical evidence review and critical synthesis.
  • Perform cost-effectiveness modeling and compare GiveWell's model with external vaccine cost-effectiveness models.
  • Discuss research questions with subject matter experts and incorporate the broader context and professional judgment.
  • Develop methods for evaluating the impact of programs on vaccination coverage.
  • Collect and combine data from various sources to assess which programs to expand or exit.
  • Investigate opportunities in surveillance, outbreak response, vaccine research and development, vaccine procurement, supply chains, campaigns, and vaccine delivery technology.
  • Design studies to improve estimates of the effects of childhood vaccines on disease-specific or all-cause mortality.
  • Own grant investigations end-to-end, from research question through grant recommendation.
  • Help shape a major annual grantmaking portfolio.
  • Represent GiveWell to external counterparts.
  • Communicate externally about research findings.
  • Mentor and advise other researchers on the team.
