  • A current approved Alabama Board of Nursing registered nurse license or multistate license is required, or the ability to obtain one before starting.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support Provider training is required.
  • A minimum associate degree is required.
  • The ability to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English is required.
  • Depending on the assigned unit, required certifications may include Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Trauma Nursing Core Course, Neonatal Resuscitation Program, Intermediate Fetal Monitoring, or cardiac monitoring qualifications.
  • International registered nurses must meet the Alabama registered nurse licensure, Basic Life Support, associate-degree, and English-language requirements.
  • The role requires every-other-weekend availability, including Saturdays and Sundays.
  • The role requires physical presence onsite and the ability to perform medium work, including lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying, prolonged standing and walking, and emergency running, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Responsibilities
  • Assess each assigned patient on admission and on an ongoing basis, including physical, psychological, social, spiritual, cultural, pain, nutritional, functional, developmental, age-related, and discharge-planning needs.
  • Plan, provide, and document patient and significant-other education after identifying barriers to learning.
  • Evaluate and regularly reevaluate patient care and coordinate care planning with patients, families, providers, and other disciplines to achieve patient-centered outcomes.
  • Assign and delegate nursing care to team members according to patient needs and team-member capabilities.
  • Apply safety principles when performing care.
  • Accurately document observations, care provided, and changes in the care plan.
  • Provide accurate handoff reports and participate in unit-based huddles.
  • Assist with performance-improvement activities by serving on performance-improvement teams, assisting with measures, and supporting and implementing necessary changes.
  • Perform initial and annual competency assessments by job class.
  • Supervise LPNs, patient care assistants, unit secretaries, orthopedic technicians, and other non-licensed staff.
  • Maintain professional nursing practice standards and positive therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Use electronic mail, time-and-attendance software, learning-management software, and the intranet.
  • Identify and reduce unsafe practices and take action to reduce risks and hazards for patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Perform essential job functions in a manner that ensures patient, visitor, and employee safety.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
