Day Shift - 7.5 Hours (United States of America)
The Histology Technician is responsible for performing a variety of histologic and cytologic techniques to prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination and diagnosis. The technician ensures accurate specimen processing, staining, and slide preparation while maintaining compliance with all quality control and laboratory safety standards.
Responsibilities:
Perform all standard histologic techniques with precision and efficiency.
Process tissue specimens using manual, microwave, and automated methods.
Embed a variety of tissue types and sizes for sectioning.
Cut and prepare tissue sections for routine, special, and immunohistochemical staining.
Perform and maintain all staining procedures for diagnostic and confirmatory purposes.
Cover slip and label stained tissue sections accurately for archival and diagnostic use.
Prepare and maintain reagents, stains, and laboratory equipment in optimal condition.
Perform frozen section preparation, cutting, and staining as required.
Assist with cytological techniques when assigned, including:
- Specimen processing via centrifugation.
- Preparation of cytology smears for microscopic examination.
- Performing Papanicolaou and Diff-Quik stains.
- Preparation of cell blocks for diagnostic use.
Maintain accurate filing and retrieval systems for tissue blocks and slides.
Participate in quality control and quality assurance procedures.
Maintain chemical supply inventory and manage chemical and biological waste in compliance with safety regulations.
Provide morgue coverage when necessary.
Perform additional duties as required to support the efficient operation of the department.
Qualifications:
Education: Completion of an accredited Histotechnology or Clinical Laboratory Science program.
Experience: Minimum of 1 year experience in a histology laboratory preferred; completion of an ASCP-accredited education program may substitute for experience.
Licensure/Certification:
- Current New York State Laboratory/Histology Technician License
- ASCP certification

Salary Range: $32.55/Hr - $34.11/Hr
