Requirements
  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in law with high academic credentials from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience in IP administrative function.
  • IP Management System experience, preferably Anaqua.
  • Familiarity with Patent Laws of different geographies.
  • Strong analytical, communication, attention to details and project management skills.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate with cross-functional teams and key stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to establish priorities, balance multiple tasks and deadlines at one time and effectively manage competing priorities.
Responsibilities
  • Gathers information and instructions to assist patent attorney/agent with US/international patent application filing and prosecution, communicates requests and instructions to liaisons, foreign associates, or outside counsel.
  • Independently obtains data and composes detailed prosecution related correspondence of varying complexity requiring an advanced working knowledge of US and international government rules/guidelines, patent administrative practices, specialized patent terminology, and/or technical vocabulary.
  • Analyzes incoming patent communications and determines required action and appropriate response.
  • Supports global patent team by charting case status, coordinating multiple worldwide patent dockets, preparing reports, and independently responding to client inquiries.
  • Identifies and solves problems or discrepancies by interpreting data, utilizing internal and external resource manuals and researching government rules/guidelines (MPEP, CFR, Kluwer Manual, Global Patent Office websites).
  • Documents solutions to difficult scenarios, proposes and implements changes to existing documentation, publishes updates in Patent Practices Manual and presents process change to peers at standing best practice meetings.
  • Use public databases to chart information about non-3M patents and publications (family relationships, pendency, maintenance fees, assignment history, etc.) for negotiated IP agreements or litigation.
  • Emphasizes cost-efficiency by maintaining proficient workflow, closely monitoring deadlines, effectively communicating with domestic and international colleagues and firms in a timely manner.
  • Meets critical docket deadlines and avoids errors in prosecution documents to ensure patent rights are maintained world-wide.

3M turnaround ahead of schedule with 25% margin target, but PFAS lawsuits persist in Montana and Australia

3M's CEO William Brown reports the company's turnaround is ahead of schedule, with adjusted organic sales growing 5.4% in Q2 and margins tracking above 25% by 2027. On-time delivery improved from the low 80% range to around 90%, whilst product launches increased from 125 three years ago to an expected 350 this year. However, legal challenges persist. A Montana federal judge recently allowed a nationwide PFAS class action involving firefighter gear to proceed. Additionally, the Australian government is seeking more than A$2 billion in damages over PFAS-containing firefighting foam. Institutional interest grew, with hedge fund ownership rising from 63 funds in Q1 to 72 in Q2. Short interest remained low at 1.79% of float.

American Graphics & Signs partners with 3M to offer cooling film that cuts cargo heat by up to 10°F and extends EV range by 23–43 miles

American Graphics & Signs has partnered with 3M to offer 3M™ Cooling Film, a passive-cooling solution designed to reduce heat buildup in commercial fleet vehicles. The film is applied to vehicle roofs and deflects over 85% of solar radiation whilst releasing absorbed heat. A year-long trial across 10 electric delivery vans in Phoenix, Arizona showed the film reduced cargo temperatures by an average of 5.3°F, with reductions up to 10.3°F in August. The cooling effect preserved 4.6 to 8.6 miles of usable electric vehicle range per operating hour, adding roughly 23 to 43 miles during a typical five-hour delivery window. For petrol or diesel vehicles, the film reduces cooling demand and fuel consumption whilst improving driver comfort.

3M raises $1.1B in Eurobonds amid 9.3% undervaluation, analysts say

3M launches cooling film that cuts vehicle interior temperatures by up to 10°F

3M has launched 3M™ Cooling Film, a roof-applied heat-management solution for vehicles. The film uses thermal management technology to reflect more than 85% of solar radiation, reducing interior temperatures by up to 10°F. The product targets last-mile delivery fleets, refrigerated trucks and trailers, and passenger rail vehicles. It aims to reduce cooling demand, improve energy efficiency, and protect temperature-sensitive cargo whilst enhancing comfort for drivers and passengers. The film features a durable coating that resists dirt, chemicals, and wear, backed by a five-year warranty. Professional installers can apply it quickly to minimise vehicle downtime. The solution is part of 3M's broader portfolio of heat-management products for the transportation sector.
