Requirements
  • A high school diploma or G.E.D. is required.
  • Successful completion of the FMCNA Biomedical Technician Technical Certification Program within the first 24 months of employment is required.
  • A valid driver's license issued in the employee's state of residence is required.
  • A minimum of four years of supervisory experience is required.
  • A minimum of four years of experience working in an industrial or medical technical setting is required, or three years of such experience with an Associate degree in electronics or biomedical technology, or two years of such experience with a Bachelor’s degree in a technology or business field.
  • Attendance at all technical training programs required by state or federal regulations and FMCNA policy is required.
  • The ability to use common hand tools and small power equipment is required.
  • The ability to train subordinate personnel is required.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications and mainframe applications, are required.
  • The ability to comprehend and communicate in the English language is required.
  • Employees must meet the necessary requirements of the Ishihara Color Blindness test as a condition of employment.
  • The ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays is required.
  • Overnight travel may be required.
  • All required certifications must be maintained and current.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise the overall operation, condition, maintenance, and repair of water treatment, physical plant, medical equipment, and mechanical and electrical systems for a defined area.
  • Manage Technical Services for an area typically consisting of 10 to 25 clinics and 7 to 15 exempt and non-exempt employees.
  • Work with Area Managers and/or Directors of Operations to ensure operational, financial, and regulatory Technical Service requirements are met.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Education personnel on cross-functional initiatives.
  • Manage area financial metrics, including TAP, maintenance parts cost, travel, and expenses.
  • Maintain data integrity for area management systems, including PeopleSoft, Kronos, and the Service Database.
  • Pilot and implement new systems and processes as needed.
  • Oversee repair and maintenance activities for water treatment equipment, dialysis equipment, ancillary equipment, test equipment, and the physical plant.
  • Document all repair and maintenance activity according to applicable policies and procedures.
  • Purchase and maintain service-parts inventory.
  • Ensure defective parts with associated RGA and warranty parts are returned in a timely manner.
  • Support and participate in the Quality Assessment and Process Improvement process.
  • Ensure facility staff meet regulatory and OSHA requirements.
  • Collect and process water and dialysate samples according to applicable policies and procedures.
  • Review, evaluate, and report water and dialysate quality results.
  • Transport equipment as needed.
  • Establish operating and financial goals with the Director of Technical Services.
  • Monitor performance metrics and implement processes to improve them.
  • Collaborate with the Regional Technical Operations Manager on selection of water treatment equipment for new developments, relocations, and renovations.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager on technical and physical-plant aspects of new developments, relocations, and renovations.
  • Integrate Technical Services into acquired facilities in collaboration with Operations personnel.
  • Perform technical assessments for clinics in the assigned area.
  • Initiate, monitor, and manage external vendor service and maintenance agreements and contracts.
  • Ensure applicable manufacturers’ instructions for use are available to personnel.
  • Maintain an emergency-contact list and ensure it is accessible to facility personnel.
  • Coordinate and provide Technical Services support during natural disasters or emergency situations.
  • Recruit, interview, and hire Technical Supervisors and/or Biomedical Technicians as needed.
  • Mentor and serve as a role model and resource for Technical Services personnel.
  • Train and mentor Technical Supervisors and/or Biomedical Technicians as required.
  • Ensure proper training and education for Technical Supervisors and Biomedical Technicians.
  • Maintain personnel and training records according to policy and procedure and make them accessible to authorized personnel and regulatory agencies.
  • Provide ongoing and formal annual performance evaluations to Technical Supervisors and/or Biomedical Technicians I and II.
  • Oversee corrective actions and Personnel Improvement Plans according to applicable human resources policies and procedures.
  • Keep technical sections of the Clinical Services Integrated Policy and Procedure manual current.
  • Implement technical policy and procedure changes upon approval from the Governing Body.
  • Retain technical records and logs according to the company retention policy.
  • Participate in facility audits conducted by the RQM and federal, state, or local surveyors and prepare and implement plans of correction for technical deficiencies.
  • Schedule and oversee Technical Supervisors and/or Biomedical Technicians to ensure appropriate area coverage.
  • Maintain and update water-system diagrams and valve charts.
  • Coordinate equipment installation and implementation of product initiatives and improvements.
  • Perform or assist with the Direct Patient Care Technical Training Program.
  • Collaborate with Operations personnel to address adverse events and product complaints.
  • Perform the monthly SAP supply-inventory process and create SAP requisitions for equipment.
  • Assist Operations personnel with technical aspects of new developments, relocations, and renovations.
  • Ensure dialysis machines, water systems, and mixing equipment are installed, operational, and validated according to manufacturers’ documentation and company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain the asset register for 8000-series equipment based on equipment movement and Finance Department criteria.
  • Assist Operations personnel in reviewing and recommending capital-equipment purchases.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with affiliated physicians and communicate and disseminate pertinent information as appropriate.
  • Drive the company culture through values and customer-service standards.
  • Develop and maintain relationships through effective and timely communication.
  • Respond to, resolve, and follow up on customer issues in a timely manner.
Desired Qualifications
  • An Associate degree in electronics or biomedical technology, or equivalent, is preferred.
  • Nephrology or biomedical-industry technical certification within 24 months of employment is preferred; acceptable certifications include Board of Nephrology Examiners Nursing and Technology Certified Hemodialysis Technician or National Nephrology Certification Organization Certified Biomedical Nephrology Technician.
  • Biomedical-industry technical certification is preferred; acceptable certifications include Water Quality Association Water Treatment Specialist or Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician.
