Requirements
  • Applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.
  • Family physicians must have membership with the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
  • Specialists must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
  • Applicants must have membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association.
  • Applicants must hold current Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification.
  • Applicants must hold current Advanced Trauma Life Support certification.
  • Applicants must hold current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification.
  • Applicants without current CCFP(EM) or FRCPC credentials must have current ACLS, ATLS, PALS, and Advanced Airway certifications.
  • Applicants must hold Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership in the resuscitation and stabilization of major trauma patients and critically ill patients.
  • Assess and manage the full spectrum of emergency medicine presentations, including injuries, unexpected and undifferentiated medical and surgical illnesses in patients of all ages, and mental health emergencies.
  • Provide care and coordinate community-based care and secondary- and tertiary-level health care.
  • Operate within the bylaws, rules, and regulations of Nova Scotia Health Authority.
  • Participate in quality improvement and evaluation activities.
  • Work permanent full-time hours totaling 1,340 hours per annum through rotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Work current 12-hour shifts, with potential evening cover shifts.
  • Occasionally rotate through other Northern Zone Emergency Departments to meet critical operational requirements.
Desired Qualifications
  • Emergency department ultrasound training is strongly desirable and supported by the department.
