Laboratory Services Technician 1

The role is responsible for supporting the daily operations of Cord Blood Registry (CBR) and California Cryobank (CCB) cryogenic storage facilities. The role primarily focuses on the handling, storage, inventory, and documentation of cord blood and cord tissue specimens. This entry-level role ensures that all biospecimens are maintained under strict temperature-controlled conditions and handled according to established standard operating procedures (SOPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and regulatory guidelines. Technicians will assist with receiving, labeling, transferring, and tracking biological samples within liquid nitrogen (LN2) storage systems, as well as performing routine inspections and maintenance of equipment. 

The Technician I will work under the supervision of senior team members and contributes to maintaining a compliant, safe, and organized biorepository environment. This role is critical in supporting the long-term viability and traceability of life-saving cellular therapies and requires strong attention to detail, comfort with cold environments, and a commitment to quality and accuracy.

Essential Functions & Accountabilities:

• Perform inventory management to include receiving, assessment, storage, transferring, and distribution of
biological specimens/medical devices.
• Adheres to strict guidelines when handling specimen/devices while performing inventory management
functions.
• Performs related shipping and receiving functions of specimens/devices to include picking/packing,
serial number/lot number verification, package preparation, scanning, courier interaction, tracking of incoming
and outgoing shipments, and general follow-up as needed.
• Provides support to all CCB donor site locations for cryogenic maintenance-related issues.
• Responds to biorepository alert systems with appropriate follow-up action.
• Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect specimen integrity, and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical supervisor, manager, or director of the
biorepository operations.
• Performs on-call duties and responses to biorepository alert systems.
• Performs equipment monitoring and maintenance on all biorepository related equipment, including liquid
nitrogen (LN2) bulk supply.
• Performs quality control checks on all biorepository related equipment.
• Interacts and updates various databases related to biorepository functions and activities.
• Provide administration support by producing various reports and record keeping associated with biorepository functions and activities.
• Adheres to strict safety guidelines.
• Handles LN2, utilizing personal protective equipment and good safety practices.
• Assist in external/internal audit preparations as required.
• Adheres to all company policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties and projects as required.
• Must be able to routinely lift and carry items unassisted.
