Requirements
  • A Certified Nursing Assistant credential, previous experience working with elderly people in a residential or long-term care setting, or both are preferred.
  • A current Certified Nursing Assistant license, another applicable license, or the ability to obtain the license as required by the state regulatory agency is required.
  • The ability to take blood pressure, pulse, respiration, temperature, and oxygen saturation measurements, or the ability to learn these tasks, is required.
  • Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid credentials must be maintained.
  • Current Food Handlers credentials must be maintained.
  • Annual continuing education credits must be maintained.
  • The ability to establish effective relationships with residents, family members, and team members is required.
  • The ability to read, comprehend, write, and speak English is required to communicate effectively with residents, families, visitors, and other team members.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, is required.
  • All health-related requirements pertaining to state licensure must be met.
  • The essential duties must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • The role is subject to pre-employment screening, including physical, drug, tuberculosis, and criminal background testing.
  • Reliable and predictable attendance is required.
Responsibilities
  • Review and understand all resident individual service plans.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, eating, transferring, and ambulation, as specified in individual service plans.
  • Engage residents in meaningful conversation and socialization while providing personal care assistance.
  • Observe residents for changes in physical, emotional, mental, and social condition, unusual symptoms, accidents, injuries, or unusual occurrences, and promptly report them to a licensed nurse or supervisor.
  • Complete incident reports and written or computerized documentation as necessary to communicate resident information with the Resident Care Team, licensed nurses, and Executive Director.
  • Assist with resident mealtimes in the dining room, serve meals using proper serving technique, and ensure food is presented attractively as needed.
  • Encourage residents to participate in scheduled activities and outings and assist with those activities as needed.
  • Where permitted by the state regulatory agency, assist with postmortem care carried out by a Medication Technician for a resident who passes away in the community under hospice.
  • Make resident beds, empty apartment trash, and tidy resident apartments daily and as needed or requested.
  • Turn down resident beds in the evening if requested.
  • Change resident linens and towels according to the community laundry schedule and as needed or requested.
  • Maintain resident clothing and closets in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Assist with scheduled resident laundry, including unscheduled laundry when necessary.
  • Notify Housekeeping team members of spills and soiled areas and assist with cleanup as needed; if no Housekeeper is on duty, clean spills and soils immediately.
  • Assist in cleaning walkers, wheelchairs, and other resident equipment as needed.
  • Assist with other housekeeping duties as assigned.
  • Attend required team member meetings and in-service training sessions.
  • Answer phones promptly and courteously as needed.
  • Uphold Residents’ Rights as defined by state regulations and company policy.
  • Support and uphold company policies and the service philosophy.
  • Adhere to the company dress code while on duty.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
