Requirements
  • A master’s degree from an accredited school of Social Work or a master’s degree from an accredited psychology program.
  • Three years of acute care hospital experience.
  • Licensure as a master’s-prepared social worker or marriage and family therapist.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • A Licensed Clinical Social Worker license is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide assistance to the department manager in the continuing operation of the department.
  • Facilitate professional services that meet patients’ psychosocial needs through psychosocial assessments, brief treatment and counseling, crisis interventions, case consultation, patient education, resource management, and assistance with discharge planning.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and oversight to other social workers in the department.
  • Provide mental health expertise and community outreach and networking with community programs as needed.
  • Coordinate patient services with social service staff according to policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Apply infection control policies and practices, including standard precautions and disease-specific isolation.
  • Meet population- and age-specific competencies according to the unit-specific addendum.
  • Attend mandatory inservices, education, training activities, and staff meetings, and submit required paperwork on time.
  • Participate in and coordinate administrative projects.
  • Provide administrative support to the Department Director.
  • Use risk management strategies to minimize organizational liability.
  • Apply the change process in support of organizational imperatives.
  • Assist in maintaining department readiness for regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as a role model for team-building behaviors within the department and organization.
  • Serve as a resource during crisis or disaster situations.
  • Assist with developing department policies and procedures.
  • Assist with assignments and schedules at the direction of the Director.
  • Maintain the knowledge and skills needed to serve as a patient-care resource for staff.
  • Support case management through knowledge of basic utilization review concepts, discharge planning, and general payer requirements.
  • Use a systematic approach that considers physiological, psychological, spiritual, environmental, and age-related factors when assessing patient-care needs.
  • Provide safe and competent care in emergency situations.
  • Provide therapeutic and interventional modalities to meet patients’ psychosocial needs.
  • Provide timely and appropriate patient assessments and interventions.
  • Advocate for patients’ rights.
  • Mobilize community resources on patients’ behalf.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and statistical records.
