Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of one year of experience as a Medical Assistant is required.
  • Candidates must have basic computer skills, including familiarity with electronic medical records.
  • Candidates must be proficient with Google Suite, including Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides, and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, for real-time collaboration.
  • Candidates must have their own means of transportation.
  • Candidates must be able to handle and transfer patients and medical equipment, perform manual and finger dexterity tasks, and maintain eye-hand coordination.
  • Candidates must be able to stand, walk, push, bend, kneel, and reach at arm’s length and overhead for prolonged periods in a clinic.
  • Candidates must be able to lift and move patients and medical equipment as needed and lift or carry up to 15 pounds.
  • Candidates must have corrected vision and hearing within the normal range.
  • Candidates must be able to operate a computer and telephone.
  • Candidates must handle data confidentially and communicate with patients, providers, health plans, and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Candidates must work cross-functionally with multiple teams and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Candidates must demonstrate organizational, time-management, multitasking, attention-to-detail, critical-thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Candidates must appreciate cultural diversity and demonstrate sensitivity toward the target patient population.
Responsibilities
  • Greet and prepare patients for provider examinations by obtaining patient history, chief complaint, current medications, medical history, allergies, surgical history, family history, social history, and other preventive medicine reviews; take patients’ vital signs; and record the information in the electronic medical record.
  • Assist providers with examinations, treatments, and procedures as directed.
  • Maintain complete and detailed patient records electronically in the electronic medical record.
  • Measure and record vital signs in the electronic medical record.
  • Handle front-desk operations, including answering phones, greeting patients, scheduling appointments, addressing routine inquiries, and triaging calls.
  • Maintain patient medical records in accordance with the center’s policy.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and provider instructions to patients.
  • Prepare patients and examination rooms.
  • Complete patient phone calls, including proactive care coordination, medication reminders, appointment reminders, and transitional care management, and document telephone encounters.
  • Provide patient and provider support during procedures by handing instruments or equipment to the physician as directed.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment after use and dispose of contaminated supplies.
  • Perform clinical duties, including administering oral and injectable medications, irrigating eyes and ears, dressing and bandaging wounds and incisions, starting and monitoring intravenous infusions, and assisting physicians with procedures.
  • Perform in-office diagnostic tests, including eye examinations, electrocardiography, oxygen administration as ordered, pulse oximetry, peak-flow testing, and inhalation treatments.
  • Perform in-office Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments-waived laboratory tests.
  • Conduct quality controls related to laboratory equipment and testing, maintain laboratory-related logs, perform prothrombin time/international normalized ratio testing using CoaguChek or Coag Sense, and perform glucose testing using a glucometer.
  • Complete electronic medical records with medical services rendered, test results, and supplies used.
  • Monitor disposable inventory and order medical supplies and pharmaceuticals as requested.
  • Draw blood and process specimens for send-out.
  • Provide patient education as directed by the provider.
  • Assist with front-office tasks, including patient check-in and check-out, referrals, prescription medication management, and inbound and outbound telephone calls.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of office medications and medical supplies and order them as needed.
  • Assist with onboarding and training new team members.
  • Assist with inventory and maintain office supplies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, preferably leading to Registered Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant status.
  • CPR certification.
  • Intravenous start certification.
  • Phlebotomy experience, including knowledge of various collection methods and testing such as bleeding times, collecting donor blood, bedside testing, and preparing specimens.
  • Knowledge of medical coding.
  • Knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act requirements.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements.
  • Working knowledge of common prescription medications that treat conditions and diseases affecting the assigned patient population.
