About the job

Requirements
  • A PhD or Master’s degree with equivalent depth in Electrical, Pulsed Power, Power Electronics, High-Voltage Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience designing, building, and testing high-voltage pulsed power systems from concept through hardware integration, including Marx generators, pulse-forming networks, or solid-state switch stacks.
  • Strong command of fast switching using spark-gap, solid-state, or hybrid technologies; capacitor energy storage; insulation coordination; pulse diagnostics including dV/dt, dI/dt, and impedance matching; and protection.
  • Ability to make sound technical and economic decisions with incomplete data under time pressure.
  • Experience creating and enforcing safety practices for high-voltage and high-energy laboratory or field environments.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate across hardware, controls, and geoscience domains.
Responsibilities
  • Own the design and development of next-generation pulsed power systems using Marx or related fast high-voltage architectures that deliver repeatable, high-energy microsecond- to millisecond-scale pulses.
  • Architect modular, field-deployable generator stacks covering charging, storage, switching, pulse-forming, measurement, and protection for reliability, waveform fidelity, and rugged field operation.
  • Run trade studies on switching topologies, insulation schemes, and energy delivery to balance rise time, repetition rate, efficiency, serviceability, and cost.
  • Integrate high-speed diagnostics, sensing, and controls to monitor pulse shape, energy, and component health, and iterate from laboratory and pilot data.
  • Collaborate with geoscience teammates to connect pulse parameters with permeability gains and fracture-geometry outcomes.
  • Draft technical reports, funding proposals, stakeholder updates, and safety and operations documentation.
  • Establish and enforce high-voltage and environmental, health, and safety protocols covering arc flash, interlocks, grounding, and remote operation.
  • Support field mobilizations by configuring, commissioning, operating, and troubleshooting systems.
Desired Qualifications
  • Field deployment of ruggedized high-voltage or pulsed power hardware in geothermal, mining, defense testing, plasma, or similar environments.
  • Knowledge of plasma channel formation, rock fracture mechanics, or electromechanical shock phenomena.
  • Modeling or simulation experience with SPICE, EMTP, COMSOL Multiphysics, or electrothermal or plasma modules.

About the company

Eden GeoPower focuses on sustainable natural resource recovery in geothermal energy and critical minerals, using Electrical Reservoir Stimulation (ERS) to electrically fracture rocks and increase subsurface permeability for higher resource recovery with lower environmental impact. ERS works by sending electricity into subsurface rocks to create controlled fractures, boosting permeability to access geothermal reservoirs and mineral deposits. It differentiates itself through deep MIT-level Earth Resources expertise combined with petroleum-industry experience and a license-and-service business model, especially in the MENA region where renewable potential is high. Its goal is to help achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 by expanding geothermal energy, improving the economics of resource extraction, and delivering benefits to climate and underserved communities.

What believers are saying

  • August 2026 Massachusetts gave Eden $100,000 tax credits for hiring and expansion.
  • August 2026 IEEE Spectrum reported Massachusetts horse-farm testing and a planned hydrogen pilot.
  • 2025 Colorado mine success and 2026 lab results strengthened partner interest in pilots.

What critics are saying

  • No commercial-scale hydrogen exists by October 2026; Eden still sells demonstrations, not production.
  • The Oman ARPA-E project ended May 7, 2026, pressuring Eden to replace grant revenue.
  • If Massachusetts field tests fail, customers will dismiss electricity fracturing as an expensive curiosity.

What makes Eden GeoPower unique

  • Eden's electricity-based rock fracturing is ARPA-E-backed and unlike hydraulic stimulation.
  • 2025 Colorado mine tests increased hard-rock permeability tenfold, proving unusual subsurface force.
  • Eden spans geothermal, mining, geologic hydrogen, and subsurface storage with one platform.

Eden, a company developing novel techniques to increase permeability and characterize geologic reservoirs, announced today that it has been selected as part of a project team to receive $3,517,450 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Energy Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) for a project titled “Integrated Electro-Hydraulic Fracturing and Real-Time Monitoring for Carbon Negative In-Situ Mining”. The funding is part of the ARPA-E MINER program, which prioritizes funding technologies that support novel approaches to increases the mineral yield while decreasing the required energy, and subsequent emissions, to mine and extract these energy-relevant minerals. This project is being led by Idaho National Labs, who has been working closely with Eden to develop the technology for hard rock permeability enhancement applications. Colorado School of Mines is also a sub-awardee on the project, and will be leading a novel effort to utilize Distributed Fiber-Optic Sensing” (DFOS) to monitor fracture processes and chemical reactions in the subsurface during operations of Electrical Reservoir StimulationTM.

Eden, a leader in sustainable natural resource recovery, announced today that it has been selected to receive $1,400,000 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Energy Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) for two projects titled “Electric-based Mechanical and Thermal Stimulation to Increase Geologic Hydrogen Reaction Rates in the Samail Ophiolite in Oman” and “Engineered Geologic Hydrogen Battery for Long-Term Energy Storage”. The funding is part of the $20M ARPA-E Geologic Hydrogen program, which prioritizes funding new technologies that stimulate generation of hydrogen in the subsurface, with an emphasis on minimizing costs and reducing environmental footprint. Eden will develop novel stimulated geologic hydrogen technologies to boost production from iron-rich formations like peridotites and develop game-changing solutions for long-term electrical energy storage in geological formations.

Eden Announces $1.4 Million In Arpa-E Awards To Develop Stimulated Geologic Hydrogen Technologies

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Eden, a leader in sustainable natural resource recovery, announced today that it has been selected to receive $1,400,000 in federal funding from the U.S. Eden will develop novel stimulated geologic hydrogen technologies to boost production from iron-rich formations like peridotites and develop game-changing solutions for long-term electrical energy storage in geological formations. Model predictions reveal that the global geologic hydrogen potential exceeds millions of megatonnes (Mt), and only a portion of it is capable of meeting the projected hydrogen demand for centuries. This offers promising opportunities for sustainable energy production and reduced carbon emissions
