About the Job

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Facilities Engineering, or a related engineering/technical field is required; equivalent combinations of education and experience are considered.
  • A minimum of 3–6 years of experience in commissioning, reliability, or mission-critical facilities delivery, such as data centers or similarly complex mechanical, electrical, and plumbing environments.
  • Experience supporting Level 4 functional testing and Level 5 Integrated Systems Testing, including readiness tracking, witnessing tests, and documenting and validating results.
  • Experience supporting issue management and closeout using a commissioning issue log, coordinating corrective actions across trades and vendors, and contributing to turnover-package completeness.
  • Knowledge of mission-critical electrical and mechanical systems and controls, including acceptance criteria, sequence-of-operations verification, and integrated-test concepts.
  • Ability to interpret one-line diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, sequences and control narratives, and testing documentation such as plans, scripts, checklists, and turnover packages.
  • Working familiarity with building automation systems and controls, and with electrical power monitoring systems and supervisory control and data acquisition trending for functional verification and troubleshooting support.
  • Experience with commissioning management platforms such as Cx Alloy or an equivalent platform.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools, including Excel, Teams, SharePoint, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems involving several options with limited information.
  • Ability to work legally in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed because the facility is secured 24/7.
  • Ability to respond verbally or in writing to sensitive issues, complex inquiries, or complaints from various levels of management and the public.
  • Ability to stand and walk frequently, sit frequently, and talk or hear frequently; occasional exposure to wet or humid non-weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with third-party commissioning agents on assigned projects; assist with reviewing scripts and deliverables, witness testing as needed, and help verify that results and evidence are accurate and complete.
  • Work with a third-party commissioning agent to develop, review, and implement project-specific commissioning plans.
  • Perform spot checks of field testing and documentation; help ensure tests pass only when they adhere to the sequence of operations and the evidence supports the result.
  • Analyze quality-assurance metrics and leading indicators of critical and high-severity issues in Level 4, readiness verification testing, and Level 5 integrated systems testing inspection checklists.
  • Support formal gating of systems between commissioning levels by confirming prerequisites, documentation, and readiness; escalate when installation or documentation quality does not meet the reliability standard.
  • Manage the master commissioning issue log for assigned projects, categorize issues by severity, and drive root-cause analysis for critical and high-severity Level 4 and Level 5 issues through verified closeout.
  • Collaborate with site operations to assess the impact of open deficiencies, define workarounds or manual operating procedures when appropriate, and ensure risks are documented and understood.
  • Hold general contractors and vendors accountable for the commissioning schedule, documentation requirements, and technical design intent.
  • Collaborate with project teams, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to support implementation and verification of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Communicate status, successes, challenges, and action plans to management and the broader team in a timely manner.
  • Train third-party personnel, including commissioning managers, general-contractor mechanical/electrical coordinators, and commissioning project managers, on the quality and commissioning programs.
  • Manage Cx Alloy use and requirements for each assigned project.
  • Develop and maintain a project-local feedback loop; refine risk models, adapt strategies, and track lessons learned.
  • Identify opportunities to improve commissioning-readiness processes, including prerequisites, checklists, documentation quality, and evidence capture.
  • Implement practices that improve test rigor, issue-closeout speed, and repeatability of turnover outcomes.
  • Participate in cross-functional lessons learned and incorporate improvements into future project planning and execution.
  • Enforce the project's quality-assurance and quality-control policy and define passing installation standards, including standards for torque patterns, pipe cleanliness, and cable dressing.
  • Manage and provide day-to-day direction for third-party contract mechanical and electrical quality-assurance specialists, including tasking, prioritization, coverage planning, and calibration to the Built to Run standard.
  • Review field reports for quality, consistency, and risk; ensure findings become clear corrective and preventive actions; document performance feedback and escalate it through the vendor rather than directly supervising employees.
  • Identify systemic issue patterns, quantify risk, and lead structured root-cause analysis and corrective and preventive actions for repeat failures to determine whether causes include supplier defects, installation methods, design interpretation, or environmental or operational factors.
  • Independently validate Level 3-to-Level 4 readiness criteria and sign readiness memoranda confirming that a room or system is physically complete, clean, accessible, serviceable, and correctly documented.
  • Align open items with construction, vendors, and commissioning so functional testing does not begin until quality risk is understood and accepted.
  • Ensure equipment and ancillary system equipment, including strainers, valves, filters, variable refrigerant flow units, and electrical panels, are accessible and serviceable.
  • Assist with building-management-system issue resolution.
  • Support quality assurance, quality control, and commissioning for speculative builds, data-center specifications, and tenant requirements.
  • Negotiate standard pricing with vendors.
  • Develop standardized reporting metrics to keep internal stakeholders informed about major commissioning milestones and progress.
  • Review policies and procedures annually for version control.
  • Organize and maintain the data-center runbook workflow.
  • Collaborate across multiple teams.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
