Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, communications, or a closely related field; or an associate's degree in one of those fields plus two years of related experience.
  • Related experience may include successful Job Corps outreach and admissions experience or successful outreach and admissions experience with other youth development programs.
  • A valid state driver's license is required.
  • Knowledge of Job Corps or a similar training program.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to effectively relate to students.
  • Strong organizational skills.
Responsibilities
  • Assist and provide guidance to prospective Job Corps enrollees by determining basic eligibility, conducting screening, and providing career-based counseling.
  • Travel throughout the assigned service area to conduct outreach at local schools and community organizations.
  • Assist with the enrollment process for eligible youth in the Job Corps program.
  • Conduct interviews to determine applicant eligibility in the Job Corps program.
  • Implement a local outreach program to obtain sufficient referrals to achieve contracted goals.
  • Collect and maintain applicant files with accurate data and signatures on all required forms.
  • Provide applicants, schools, and other interested parties with current information about trades offered at Job Corps.
  • Conduct tours of the center for prospective applicants and other interested groups.
  • Present information about Job Corps, trades offered, and eligibility requirements to community partners, schools, youth groups, and other groups.
  • Establish rapport with applicants and provide ongoing support through the application process, pre-departure, updates, and the applicant's center stay.
  • Introduce applicants to labor-market information for their preferred vocation in their hometown area.
  • Establish and maintain positive partnerships with center staff to ensure centers receive committed and informed applicants and students receive quality services.
