- Ability to ship algorithms to production in an AWS ECS-based service.
- Significant experience as a software engineer and/or artificial intelligence engineer shipping search or recommendation systems to production.
- Hands-on experience building end-to-end retrieval, ranking, and reranking pipelines, with familiarity with nDCG, MAP, Recall@k, and MRR.
- Proficiency turning foundation models and off-the-shelf components into production systems, including embeddings, vector search, semantic retrieval, retrieval-augmented generation, and large language model-based or managed rerankers such as Vertex AI.
- Ability to build systems, baselines, evaluations, and feedback loops with standard tooling before using custom machine learning, and to identify when to partner with machine learning engineers.
- Experience building offline and online evaluations, A/B testing, position-bias handling, monitoring, and observability across retrieval, ranking, and reranking stages.
- Ability to ship reliable, low-latency production services with hundreds-of-milliseconds service-level agreements, while maintaining data quality and long-term maintainability.
- Design and build the production search and recommendation architecture, including the full retrieval, ranking, and reranking pipeline using standard and off-the-shelf components such as vector search, semantic retrieval, and large language model or managed rerankers.
- Establish strong baselines using prompts, retrieval-augmented generation, and model selection before developing custom machine learning.
- Build evaluation and observability into every stage through offline and online evaluation.
- Set up data and event feedback loops that drive iteration and support deeper machine learning.
- Improve search relevance and ranking on patient-facing products to raise result quality.
- Own production quality, including latency, reliability, monitoring, and maintainability.
- Partner with machine learning engineers and collaborate with product managers and software engineers to define, build, and ship artificial-intelligence-powered features that deliver measurable value to users and the business.
- Experience in a business-to-consumer marketplace such as e-commerce, hospitality, or travel.
- Additional experience with pattern mining, recommendation systems, experimentation, or causal inference.
- Experience with search engines or information-retrieval concepts.
- Exposure to learning-to-rank or feature engineering.
- Experience in healthcare or another regulated domain, including GDPR or HDS.
