What believers are saying

  • Demand improved: Philips reported 4% comparable group sales growth for Q2 2026 in July 2026.
  • Software expertise has room to develop: software and data science comprised about half Philips' research effort in 2025.
  • Manufacturing expansion has backing: Philips reiterated a $150 million North American investment plan in February 2026.

What critics are saying

  • US sleep-device sales remain restricted: Philips Respironics must meet consent-decree requirements before resuming new sleep-therapy device sales.
  • Underlying earnings weakened: Philips' July 2026 report shows Q2 adjusted earnings fell slightly excluding its US tariff refund.
  • Central teams face cost pressure: February 2026 plans target 15% to 20% lower central-function costs at Philips.

What makes Philips unique

  • MRI avoids helium refills: Philips says its sealed BlueSeal magnets use seven liters rather than conventional systems' 1,500.
  • Inventions form a substantial asset base: Philips reports 53,000 patent rights across its technology portfolio.
  • The employer's name spans independent businesses: Philips licenses its brands across multiple product categories to outside partners.

Remote patient monitoring market to reach $117.9B by 2033 amid digital healthcare transformation

The global remote patient monitoring market is expected to grow from $67.3 billion in 2026 to $117.9 billion by 2033, registering a CAGR of 8.3%. Growth is driven by rising chronic disease prevalence, expanding telehealth services and increasing demand for home-based healthcare solutions. Devices and hardware account for nearly 38% of market share, led by connected blood pressure monitors, glucometers and wearable health trackers. North America holds approximately 41% of the global market, supported by strong digital healthcare infrastructure and favourable reimbursement policies. Asia Pacific is emerging as the fastest-growing region, driven by healthcare digitisation, telemedicine expansion and rising smartphone penetration. Leading players include Philips Healthcare, Medtronic, GE HealthCare and Abbott Laboratories, focusing on AI integration and cloud connectivity to enhance remote care delivery.

Additionally, they can sell accessories, consumables, and replacement parts for these devices.Sales Restrictions Remain in USThe FDA has not yet authorized Philips Respironics to resume sales of new CPAP, BiPAP, or other respiratory care devices in the US. This restriction will remain in place until Philips meets the requirements outlined in the consent decree.Global Sales Continue with RestrictionsPhilips Respironics can continue to sell new devices, accessories, consumables, and replacement parts outside the US,  subject to specific requirements.Safety of Devices with New Foam ConfirmedPhilips Respironics has conducted tests on devices using a new silicone sound abatement foam and found no safety issues. Patients can continue to use these devices following the instructions for use.Financial ImpactPhilips anticipates incurring costs associated with remediation activities and profit disgorgement related to US sales. These costs are estimated at 100 basis points in 2024.  The company’s previously announced 2023-2025 financial outlook remains unchanged,  already factoring in the consent decree. “Strengthening patient safety and quality remains Philips’ highest priority and the increased scrutiny will help us to improve even more
