Archaeologist Principal Investigator/Project Director
About the job
- A master's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field is required.
- Be a Registered Professional Archaeologist.
- Be able to hold state and federal permits in New Mexico and Arizona.
- Have at least five years of supervisory experience; preferably eight years of progressively responsible cultural resource positions, including management and/or educational experience in the desert Southwest and intermountain West, and experience working with architectural historians.
- Be familiar with geographic information system data management and working with geographic information system professionals.
- Demonstrate verbal and written communication, professional writing, problem-solving, project planning, development, and management skills.
- Be able to work independently with general supervision and manage simultaneous tasks while meeting deadlines.
- Be proficient with the Microsoft Office suite.
- Be able to satisfactorily pass pre-employment and post-employment drug and alcohol tests, including fit-for-work testing.
- Have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
- Be eligible to be employed in the United States.
- Lead cultural resources projects and business development opportunities, and independently manage archaeological and historic resources projects, including directing field studies and assembling, supervising, and directing field teams.
- Serve as lead or principal investigator on cultural resources projects, including research, archaeological fieldwork surveys, monitoring, testing, data recovery projects, historical research, preservation activities, report preparation, site forms, and curation of archaeological artifacts.
- Coordinate project mobilization and demobilization to project sites.
- Support Section 106 and Section 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act, including analysis, technical studies, and project permitting for private, federal, state, and local government clients and Tribal entities.
- Mentor staff and project managers, provide technical and operational resources, and supervise cultural staff.
- Lead technical and strategy elements of proposal development, including scope, schedule, and budget.
- Meet project scope, schedule, and budget obligations for project management tasks.
- Ensure high-quality technical products through independent and quality review protocols.
- Lead and conduct all phases of cultural resource investigations under Sections 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act and other environmental planning projects, including consultation, preparing data recovery and monitoring plans, field coordination, interpretation of state and federal laws, and report writing.
- Apply knowledge of and experience with the National Environmental Policy Act and write cultural resources sections for proposed permitting actions when required.
- Frequently interact and coordinate with clients, agency representatives, and Tribal representatives.
- Be permitted or able to be permitted in Texas, Utah, Colorado, or Nevada.
- Have ten or more years of field experience; preferably eight years of progressively responsible cultural resource positions, including management and/or educational experience in the desert Southwest and intermountain West, and experience working with architectural historians.
