Southwold is a thriving seaside town in Suffolk with a rich history and pageantry. It has a busy High Street with a mix of independent and national shops, cafes and hostelries, a blue flag beach, surrounding common and marshes and a harbour, all of which draw visitors the year round.

The Council has a sizeable property portfolio, and its councillors are trustees of the Common Trust.

We are looking for an experienced Town Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer (RFO) and Clerk to The Common Trust, to take up this rare opportunity to build their own supporting team.

You and your team will be instrumental, with a committed group of councillors, in the upkeep and protection of a flourishing community and holiday destination, and the delivery of a variety of interesting ongoing and substantial projects.

The role will be a mix of office and home-based work, and it will be necessary to be out and about in the town at times and present at the town’s various civic functions. Some evening work will be required to attend council, trust and committee meetings.

Remuneration within the salary range for the role will depend on your knowledge, experience and qualifications.

As the ideal candidate, you will have a proven track record and experience in the local government sector or a similar organisation. As the successful candidate, you will demonstrate a real interest in the town and a dedication to delivering services of the highest quality to residents, businesses and visitors.
