Requirements
  • At least 7 years of technical accounting experience in public accounting, audit/assurance, or complex operational accounting, including inventory and job costing.
  • Strong command of GAAP, including project revenue recognition under ASC 606, percentage-of-completion, and work-in-process accounting.
  • Experience building budgets and forecasts and reporting EBITDA to ownership, lenders, or a parent company.
  • Experience with construction or mid-market ERPs and payroll platforms, and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including lookups, pivots, and building models from messy data.
  • A track record of bringing structure to ambiguity and communicating clearly with non-finance operators.
Responsibilities
  • Run a monthly close that delivers GAAP financial statements and the Cobalt reporting package within 7 business days.
  • Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts, reconcile all balance sheet accounts, explain material variances to budget, forecast, and prior periods, and document judgment areas such as accruals, revenue recognition, and inventory.
  • Manage revenue recognition under ASC 606, including percentage-of-completion.
  • Prepare the monthly work-in-process schedule and lead reviews with project managers and estimators on change orders, cost-to-complete, over/under billings, and projected margin.
  • Own margin visibility by job; flag erosion, overruns, and projected losses early; and compare completed jobs against estimates to sharpen pricing.
  • Ensure all billable work, including AIA/progress, service, inspection, and time-and-materials work, is billed promptly and correctly.
  • Manage retainage, unbilled revenue, and accounts receivable aging.
  • Maintain a rolling 13-week cash forecast and raise shortfalls or covenant risks early.
  • Lead the annual budget and monthly forecast of revenue, gross margin, and EBITDA by department, including new construction, service, and inspection.
  • Prepare monthly EBITDA reporting, including adjusted EBITDA and bridges to budget and prior year, and track lender covenants.
  • Build business cases for major investments such as fleet, equipment, and facilities.
  • Maintain controls over inventory transfers, job returns, and obsolete material; run cycle counts and physical inventories.
  • Enforce three-way matching on purchase orders, receiving, and invoices; segregation of duties; and verification of vendor payment changes.
  • Keep payroll, certified payroll/prevailing wage, tax, licensing, insurance, and bonding requirements current.
  • Own year-end close and audit support, and partner with the Cobalt finance team and tax advisors on the consolidated return.
  • Oversee payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable processing; supervise and develop accounting staff where a team exists; and recommend people, process, and system improvements.

The company was founded in 1988 by Mary Creech and later grew under the leadership of Gary Hinton. The acquisition marks Cobalt's 20th acquisition since the company launched in December 2023 and its third acquisition of 2026. Based in Westwood, Mass., CGL Electronic Security is a security integrator specializing in access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection and life safety systems. The company was founded in 1998 by Ron Ludvigsen, Jim Gallagher and Brendan Cavanaugh. According to the announcement, CGL grew over nearly three decades serving customers throughout the region. In 2021, Ludvigsen, Gallagher and Cavanaugh partnered with Chris Wetzel to launch CGL Technologies of PA, expanding operations into the Pittsburgh market. In the announcement, Ludvigsen stated he founded CGL with a focus on delivering service and helping customers deploy integrated security systems.
