Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Master's degree in Nursing, or enrollment in an RN-BSN or RN-MSN program within one year of hire with completion within five years of hire if hired after July 1, 2012.
  • California Registered Nurse licensure.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association upon hire.
  • One year of acute care Registered Nurse experience or successful completion of Eisenhower’s Nurse Residency Program.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and unexpected situations.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations in a calm and professional manner.
  • Ability to operate general office equipment, including a computer, printer, scanner, and telephone.
  • Accurate age-specific patient assessment skills based on scientific facts and principles.
  • Knowledge and ability to function in a professional role and serve as a professional role model.
  • Knowledge of current nursing, medical, and health trends and practices in rendering patient care.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Additional department-specific certifications may be required, including Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation Advanced Provider, Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses certification, fetal monitoring, Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab Work, and Emotional Support course completion, ONS Provider Card, Oncology Nurse Certification, or Hyperbaric Certification.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care and collaborate with patients, families, peers, physicians, and other members of the health care team.
  • Assess patients’ physical, psychosocial, and spiritual status using age-specific data and scientific facts and principles.
  • Perform initial assessments and complete required documentation within organizational standards.
  • Perform and document ongoing assessments, including observation, physical examination, laboratory and test results, and patient response to procedural intervention.
  • Participate in identifying and clarifying patient needs through multidisciplinary care planning.
  • Review and revise the plan of care according to changes in the patient’s status.
  • Complete patient classification for assigned patients as required.
  • Implement plans of care according to identified physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs.
  • Use the Relationship-Based Care Professional Practice Model to guide interactions with patients, families, coworkers, staff, physicians, and self.
  • Complete patient care assignments in compliance with established hospital policies and clinical-area procedures.
  • Prioritize nursing interventions according to patient needs.
  • Use verbal and written communication skills to present pertinent information using the Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation format as appropriate.
  • Assist other staff in delivering patient care as appropriate.
  • Provide patient teaching and discharge planning to promote optimal patient outcomes.
  • Evaluate and document patient, family, or significant-other education according to organizational standards.
  • Coordinate and document discharge planning and referrals to ensure continuity of care after discharge.
  • Maintain professional development and clinical competency.
  • Attend required professional development sessions and staff meetings, identify knowledge deficits, and seek resources or consultation to ensure safe patient care.
  • Use organizational communication channels to obtain knowledge, transmit information, address concerns, and solve problems.
  • Use evidence-based practice and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in nursing practice quality initiatives.
  • Incorporate performance-improvement recommendations into daily practice.
  • Participate in problem-solving related to quality patient-care outcomes.
  • Share knowledge and act as a professional resource to other members of the health care team.
  • Support and participate in Unit Based Council initiatives.
  • Delegate to licensed and non-licensed assistive personnel.
  • Contribute to peers’ professional growth through feedback, peer coaching, and evaluation.
  • Comply with divisional and unit-specific matrices.
  • Work at alternate sites when required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
