About the company

Moderna develops medicines built on messenger RNA (mRNA). Its products use mRNA delivered into cells to instruct them to produce specific proteins that can prevent or treat disease, with vaccines being a primary example. In practice, a dose delivers engineered mRNA into the body, cells translate it into a target protein, and the immune system responds or the protein modulates biology to combat disease. Moderna differentiates itself through its focus on building a whole mRNA medicines platform and in-house capabilities for designing, manufacturing, and scaling mRNA therapies, including rapid development and large-scale production. Its goal is to create a new category of medicines based on mRNA that can improve how diseases are discovered, developed, and treated, ultimately improving patient outcomes.

Moderna shares fall 6% as Citi downgrades to Sell, citing stretched valuation despite cancer vaccine progress

Moderna shares fell 6% in premarket trading Wednesday after Citi downgraded the stock from Neutral to Sell, citing stretched valuation following a 222% rally since positive cancer vaccine trial results. Citi analyst Geoff Meacham noted Moderna's market capitalisation now matches Regeneron despite materially lower expected revenue and earnings. He raised his price target to $80 from $60, though this remains well below the current share price. The rally followed positive August results from the INTerpath-001 melanoma trial, which tested Moderna's individualised mRNA cancer vaccine with Merck's Keytruda. Detailed data will be presented at the European Society for Medical Oncology Congress in October. Moderna is bringing back former executive Juan Andres as chief operating officer to lead manufacturing ahead of a potential launch. The stock has surged 556% year to date.

The award beat rival Northrop Grumman and marks Boeing's second consecutive sixth-generation fighter programme win. Concentrix plunged 11.1% after reporting disappointing revenue and guidance. The company forecast fourth-quarter revenue to decline 3% to 5%, citing faster-than-expected AI automation among clients.

(NASDAQ:MRNA) today announced the addition of a Chief Operating Officer role to support the increasing scale and diversification of the Company. The new role comes as Moderna prepares for the potential launch and scale-up of intismeran autogene following positive Phase 3 results and continues to advance a broader oncology portfolio. The Company has also expanded the infectious disease franchise, which now includes five approved vaccines following the recent U.S. FDA approval of Moderna's seasonal flu vaccine and the European Commission marketing authorization of the Company's seasonal flu plus COVID combination vaccine. Juan Andres will return to Moderna as Chief Operating Officer, effective October 5, 2026. Mr. Andres will report to Chief Executive Officer Stéphane Bancel and serve on the Company's Executive Committee. As Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Andres will work across the Company to help drive focus, prioritization and execution while leading the manufacturing organization. Moderna also announced that Jerh Collins, Ph.D., Chief Technical Operations and Quality Officer, has decided to retire from the Company. "I am very pleased to welcome Juan back to Moderna as our Chief Operating Officer," said Stéphane Bancel, Chief Executive Officer of Moderna. "As we enter the next chapter of Moderna, Juan's experience leading complex global operations will be invaluable. Mr. Andres previously spent nearly six years at Moderna, joining the Company in 2017 and serving as Chief Technical Operations and Quality Officer from 2018 through 2022. He later served as President, Strategic Partnerships and Enterprise Expansion before retiring from Moderna in 2023. During his tenure, he led the build-out and unprecedented scale-up of Moderna's manufacturing capabilities, including the rapid expansion of the Company's global manufacturing network to support the production and supply of Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine. "I am excited to return to Moderna at such an important moment for the Company," said Mr. Andres. "Moderna has always been a special place to me, and the opportunity ahead is tremendous. As I look ahead to retirement, I have great confidence in the team and in Moderna's future." Prior to Moderna, he spent nearly 30 years at Novartis in roles of increasing responsibility across pharmaceutical production and manufacturing. Intismeran autogene is jointly developed by Moderna and Merck, known as MSD outside of the United States and Canada. About Moderna Moderna is a pioneer and leader in the field of mRNA medicine. After Moderna's dizzying rally, it's time to sell, says analyst. * ALLISON GATLIN * Updated 04:11 PM ET 09/30/2026 After nearly quadrupling over the past month, it's time to get out of Moderna (MRNA) stock, a Citi analyst said Wednesday as he downgraded shares to a sell rating. Citi's Geoff Meacham's downgrade comes alongside a price target hike to 80 from 60, according to reports from MarketWatch and Barron's. Meacham arrived at the new price target by refining his sales and operating expense assumptions. Biotech's Next Boom? Biotech's Next Boom? Inside The Multibillion Dollar Cancer Detection Market See All Videos Still, it's not enough to justify Moderna's valuation following an "outsized run" that began on Aug. 19 following upbeat news for the Merck (MRK)-partnered cancer vaccine, intismeran autogene, or INT. Citi declined to share the analyst's note with Investor's Business Daily. "While intismeran could become a market leading therapy in melanoma, we believe the re-rating now reflects successful expansion in many tumor types and unrealistic implied sales," Meacham said. In response to the downgrade, Moderna stock tumbled 5.4% to 192.57. Moderna's towering market cap. The massive run sent Moderna's market cap north of $81 billion, according to MarketSurge. That closely mirrors Regeneron Pharmaceuticals' (REGN) $77 billion cap. But, while Regeneron is massively profitable with growing sales, the same can't be said for Moderna. A lot hinges on the cancer vaccine, which has only shown promise in melanoma. The companies said in August that patients given intismeran autogene in combination with Keytruda, Merck's blockbuster cancer drug, were less likely to relapse than those who received Keytruda alone. Meacham says Moderna and Merck will score a "clear win" if the combination lowers the risk of recurrence by 35%. Cutting the odds of relapse by 28% would be a "clinical credible," he said. But the biggest driver behind Moderna stock are what Meacham says are outsized expectations for the therapeutic vaccine to work in other cancers. The companies are running nine other studies of intismeran autogene, including in kidney, lung and bladder cancers. But those cancers are vastly different from melanoma, which is considered an easy cancer to treat. Moderna stock's high rating. The downgrade puts Meacham in a small group of bearish voices. Of the 27 analysts who cover Moderna stock on FactSet, just two - not including Meacham - rate it a sell or equivalent. Six have buy ratings and 10 are hold-rated on the stock. Still, Moderna stock retains a strong IBD Relative Strength Rating of 99. This means shares are in the top 1% of all stocks when it comes to 12-month performance. IBD newsletters.
