Responsibilities
  • Prepare and process journal entries for routine accounts, obtaining necessary details from colleagues and resolving discrepancies.
  • Reconcile balance-sheet account balances to supporting documentation and research and resolve discrepancies independently or with assistance from team members.
  • Assist with quarterly and annual financial statements and analyze cash flows.
  • Assist with implementation of new accounting software, learn its technical aspects, and contribute to system accounting rules and reporting.
  • Support company-wide information technology projects to ensure financial transactions and reporting are accounted for appropriately.
  • Build relationships with Information Technology and Actuarial department contacts to support successful implementation.
  • Develop understanding of applicable statutory accounting and reporting requirements and basic accounting technical guidance, and contribute to establishing new accounting-record procedures.
  • Research differences between the new accounting system and source systems.
  • Support internal and external auditors by providing analysis and explanations with other accountants.
  • Lead reconciliation of the health plan account and collaborate with Human Resources contacts to reconcile general ledger accounts.
  • Prioritize responsibilities and meet deadlines in a team environment.
  • Maintain attention to detail and research and resolve reconciling items.
  • Maintain confidence, integrity, and trust in fact and appearance.
  • Promote positive customer service in internal and external dealings.

The company marked the opening with an Aug. 4 ribbon-cutting ceremony. The Bedford location gives Arbella a permanent commercial lines team in a market where the insurer has been increasing agency appointments and deploying additional underwriting and marketing resources. New Hampshire has become a growth market for Arbella's commercial insurance business, prompting the company to move from serving the state through its broader regional organization to establishing local operations. The office is staffed with underwriting, marketing and loss control professionals, and Arbella said it plans to continue growing its team in New Hampshire. "Our growth in New Hampshire has been building steadily, and the time is right to establish roots in the state," said Bill Hughes, senior vice president and executive officer of commercial lines at Arbella. Arbella selected Bedford in part because of its central location and proximity to independent insurance agents and other company partners across the state.
