EPRI is a non-profit research consortium owned by electric utilities that funds objective scientific studies of power generation, transmission, distribution, reliability, safety, and environmental performance. Its products come from member dues that support large R&D programs, testing technologies, analyzing data, and publishing findings, guidelines, and tools for utilities and regulators. Unlike for-profit firms or single-company labs, EPRI pools resources across many utilities and focuses on industry-wide challenges rather than commercial products, and it has never been publicly traded or acquired. Its goal is to provide foundational R&D that helps make the electric power system more reliable, safe, and cleaner for utilities, regulators, and the public.
