GSK to invest $800M in Pennsylvania biopharma hub, creating 300 jobs

GSK will invest more than $800 million to expand its Upper Merion, Pennsylvania site into a biopharmaceutical manufacturing and research hub, creating over 300 jobs in the next five years, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro's office announced on Friday. The expansion will combine drug manufacturing, research and development, quality testing, and digital operations in Montgomery County. Construction is planned to begin in 2027 and will support clinical and commercial production of biologic medicines. The project will include a commercial-scale biologics manufacturing facility, a research pilot plant, and a centralised quality-control laboratory. It will also retain approximately 4,500 existing full-time jobs in Pennsylvania. Combined with GSK's previously announced Lancaster County facility, the company's planned investment in Pennsylvania totals nearly $1.7 billion.
