Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • At least five years of experience in the commercial construction industry, overseeing ground-up projects in healthcare, financial, and light industrial sectors.
  • A Construction OSHA 30 card earned within the last five years or the ability to renew it; OSHA 30-hour training and recertification every five years are required.
  • Proficiency in project reporting software, Microsoft Office, Procore, and blueprint reading.
  • Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and quality standards.
  • A valid driver's license and ability to travel to various job sites; travel may be up to 75%.
  • Ability to supervise and lead a team, schedule and supervise multitasking work of a multi-member team, and manage multiple teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
  • Proven knowledge of commercial building and construction and related sectors, including experience running large commercial projects from inception to profitable completion: large ground-up projects, interior renovations, finish work, and relocation and replacement work on projects valued at $2 million or more.
  • A high school diploma is the minimum educational qualification; a bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university or an associate's degree from a vocational school is a plus.
  • Five to ten years of on-the-job experience is required.
  • Ability to work extended hours to meet project deadlines and night shifts.
  • Ability to perform physical work including crawling, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, climbing stairs and ladders, using construction personnel hoists, and working in areas under construction; occasional lifting or moving of up to 50 pounds is required.
  • Current Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification is required.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors at construction sites and use required personal protective equipment and safety gear.
Responsibilities
  • Enforce OSHA requirements, the company safety plan and policies, and other safety compliance requirements as the top priority.
  • Supervise field construction to ensure projects are completed in accordance with design, budget, schedule, and customer objectives.
  • Conduct weekly on-site meetings with subcontractors, vendors, and others about schedules, safety issues, and field performance.
  • Enforce project procedures, safety program requirements, work rules, and applicable company, state, and federal worker health and safety guidelines.
  • Prepare and distribute field reports, including daily superintendent and safety reports, in a timely manner.
  • Complete punch-list items within the customer's required timeframe and project budget, using Procore to manage punch lists.
  • Monitor and direct subcontractor progress and ensure adequate manpower to meet the project schedule and customer expectations.
  • Prepare subcontractor work schedules as needed and provide input to the Project Manager on construction schedules and updates to support timely completion.
  • Verify layouts or check subcontractor layouts and establish initial control lines and grades.
  • Respond to subcontractors' questions about project documents and their work, provide documentation, and coordinate with the Construction Manager as appropriate.
  • Participate in pre-construction planning, including logistics, means and methods, bid and scope reviews, and project estimates.
  • Maintain an up-to-date set of contract documents on site.
  • Ensure subcontractors maintain record drawings, including redline as-builts, during construction.
  • Organize, establish, and maintain the on-site field office in a clean, organized, professional condition with appropriate signage.
  • Communicate timely with the Construction Manager about financial issues, safety, construction progress, labor issues, material problems, quality, and code issues.
  • Work collaboratively with Project Managers and other personnel, and coordinate with other Superintendents assigned to larger projects.
  • Manage, oversee, train, and mentor other Superintendent levels.
  • Continue education in OSHA and safety, means and methods, codes, management skills, and new technology.
  • Maintain current Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Maintain current working knowledge of local permitting processes and communicate changes to the office.
  • Keep the jobsite clean to company standards.
