Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current license in the state of Illinois.
  • Current CPR registration.
  • Knowledge of the geriatric population in life community settings.
  • Working knowledge of the policy and procedure book.
  • Recent clinical experience.
  • Experience with an electronic health record or willingness and ability to learn.
  • Physical condition allowing normal LPN duties, including lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, stooping, kneeling, sitting, reaching, grabbing, pushing, pulling, standing or walking an entire shift, using the arms and hands with dexterity, and reading labels, regulations, technical procedures, professional journals, nursing orders, and care plans.
  • Ability to manage stress and maintain a high energy level.
  • Computer knowledge necessary to perform work duties.
  • Ability to supervise with energy, courtesy, authority, respect, and fairness.
  • Ability to communicate in a friendly manner with residents and coworkers in English.
  • Ability to perform a variety of activities and adapt to a quickly changing environment as it relates to resident care and the Fairhaven property.
  • Ability to show warmth, love, and compassion and make residents feel comfortable.
  • Comfort working in a Christian retirement center environment.
  • Adherence to the attendance policy and understanding residents’ need for 24/7 care.
  • Ability to use tactful, appropriate communication in sensitive and emotional situations.
  • Adherence to all regulations specified in the Fairhaven employee handbook, procedures, and policy documents.
  • Primarily working inside Fairhaven’s main building in health care areas.
  • Wearing a Fairhaven-approved uniform.
  • Ability to work in a typical health care facility environment with elderly residents, including potential injury or infection exposure.
Responsibilities
  • Perform complete, comprehensive resident nursing care by following each care plan with kindness, respect, and recognized nursing techniques, procedures, and established standards within the scope of practical nursing.
  • Implement basic preventative, therapeutic, and rehabilitative nursing care safely for assigned residents.
  • Perform delegated independent nursing functions using established procedures, policies, guidelines, and standards as observed by the registered nurse.
  • Assist with data collection and contribute to the development of care plans.
  • Carry out physician orders accurately.
  • Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of administered nursing care.
  • Document pertinent observations and interventions in the appropriate record.
  • Perform selected tasks related to patient care and residents’ environment safely.
  • Dispense and oversee treatments, medications, and diets as ordered.
  • Maintain comprehensive resident records, including resident condition, medications, treatments, and resident response.
  • Assign duties to nursing assistants in a timely manner and communicate their performance regularly to the charge nurse.
  • Provide the charge nurse or other care-planning staff with specific information and observations about residents’ needs and preferences.
  • Provide individualized attention that encourages each resident to maintain or attain the highest practical physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being.
  • Immediately report significant events involving residents’ medical condition or behavior to nursing administration on duty.
  • Perform responsibilities according to safety and infection-control procedures, including hand washing, use of disposable gloves and gel products as indicated, and proper disposal of soiled materials.
  • Follow up with supervisors, coworkers, or residents regarding reported complaints, problems, and concerns.
  • Participate in creating an atmosphere that allows privacy, dignity, cleanliness, safety, and well-being for each resident.
  • Safeguard resident health care information and comply with all Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act regulations.
  • Act as a customer service representative and public relations ambassador for Fairhaven with residents, families, vendors, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Interact positively with residents to promote a homelike environment.
  • Immediately report abuse, neglect, or violations of residents’ rights.
  • Protect residents’ personal belongings, report missing items, and assist in locating them.
  • Maintain, care for, and safely use supplies and equipment according to Fairhaven policies and procedures.
  • Complete all required in-service training.
  • Complete assigned duties and tasks.
  • Give feedback and assist other health care team members with timely problem solving.
  • Identify process improvements and recommend changes to management.
  • Identify safety hazards and emergency situations and initiate corrective action or report them.
  • Assist the immediate supervisor with administrative tasks supporting department operations as directed.
  • Perform supportive tasks related to the essential functions of the job, which may be altered or redesigned according to individual circumstances.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
