Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • New York State certification as a Substance Abuse Counselor is required.
  • At least one year of full-time paid experience in Addiction Services is required.
  • Counseling life experience that includes satisfactory recovery from alcohol or other substance abuse for at least three years is required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform pre-screening or admissions assessments to evaluate patients' substance abuse, treatment needs, coverage, and unit appropriateness.
  • Compile psychosocial histories and gather required patient data accurately.
  • Maintain adequate and accurate patient records in accordance with hospital standards and confidentiality requirements.
  • Evaluate patients' attitudes and motivation to support discharge planning, follow-up treatment, and referrals.
  • Perform crisis intervention with patients and/or families.
  • Explain treatment modalities and how programs may be of service to patients.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary treatment team in providing patient care.
  • Coordinate further treatment related to substance abuse.
  • Participate in department Performance/Quality Improvement activities, including data collection, analysis, risk management and claims activities, and Continuous Quality Improvement teams.
  • Comply with BronxCare Health System safety and security, incident and occurrence reporting, infection control, and patient and customer service policies.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Baccalaureate is preferred.
  • Two years of experience in Addiction Services is preferred.
