Requirements
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Hold current licensure in Wisconsin as a Registered Nurse or a current active multistate Registered Nurse license.
  • Obtain American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification within 30 days of hire and complete annual recertification.
  • Complete formal training in management of the aggressive patient within 60 days of hire and complete annual recertification.
  • Demonstrate understanding of Joint Commission and other regulatory-agency compliance regulations.
  • Comply with the Hospital’s policies and procedures and its Infection Control and Employee Health programs.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee patient care provided in the inpatient departments.
  • Interact with the multidisciplinary team to learn the status of patients’ care.
  • Provide direct services according to professional discipline and training.
  • Delegate assignments.
  • Complete required medical-record documentation and correspondence accurately and in a timely manner, and monitor documentation by staff.
  • Interact regularly with medical staff to promote open communication, mutual problem-solving, positive relations, and quality services.
  • Meet with patients or staff when a patient is experiencing compliance struggles and support the patient and treatment process.
  • Act as an advocate for patients and their families and assist with conflict resolution as needed.
  • Coordinate with admissions.
  • Manage the patient milieu.
  • Attend and conduct treatment-team meetings and staffings.
  • Ensure environmental-safety rounds are completed.
  • Communicate patient acuity regarding staffing needs.
  • Support and implement the clinical program in conjunction with the Medical Director, Director of Nursing, Manager of Nursing Services, and managers of other departments.
  • Suggest program revisions and appropriate unit metrics based on patient and staff feedback and Performance Improvement metrics.
  • Use knowledge of patient rights to act as a patient advocate and respond to patient grievances.
  • Participate in resource evaluation and equipment maintenance.
  • Monitor staff use of resources and equipment to maintain a cost-effective, efficient, safe, and productive work environment.
  • Identify clinical competencies specific to the duties of the position and populations served.
  • Communicate program-performance information to the Manager or Director.
  • Assist with development of measuring goal achievement.
  • Communicate goals to staff.
  • Establish program goals with the Manager of Nursing Services and Director of Nursing that are consistent with Hospital goals and mission, in collaboration with key personnel.
  • Apply standards relevant to the Rogers Improvement System department.
  • Participate in in-services, seminars, and other meetings to increase involvement and awareness of regulations.
  • Participate in Performance Improvement teams that lead to improvement or risk reduction in Hospital areas.
  • Participate in Hospital committees, meetings, and team projects as requested.
  • Facilitate meetings and keep them on track.
  • Promote teamwork by example and participate in workload completion when necessary.
  • Interact with employees in a sensitive and positive manner.
  • Use the Human Resources policies and procedures manual.
  • Involve the Manager or Director and Human Resources staff in potentially volatile employee-related situations.
  • Communicate promptly with employees when incidents may detrimentally affect their performance or the Hospital and share information with the Manager.
  • Assist employees in professional growth.
  • Assist with developing performance standards for measuring employees.
  • Assist with developing competence measurements within each area of responsibility.
  • Assist management with recruiting, hiring, and training employees according to current job descriptions.
  • Demonstrate organizational skills that promote timely responses to inquiries and project completion.
  • Communicate with all individuals in a positive and professional manner.
  • Attempt to resolve issues with peers calmly and with a solution focus.
  • Communicate concerns and provide solutions.
  • Project a professional image by wearing appropriate professional attire.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
  • Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Certification is preferred.
  • At least two years of Registered Nurse experience, preferably in behavioral health, is preferred.
