About the job

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or another relevant technical discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience leading a high-performance team in drilling, subsurface construction, or related field operations such as oil and gas, water well, mining, or geotechnical operations.
  • A track record of zero-to-one operational builds, including standing up playbooks, systems, and organizations with little prior scaffolding.
  • Sufficient technical depth to credibly lead Operations Engineering and Reliability Engineering teams while leveraging deeper technical expertise from the Chief Innovation Officer for highly complex domain challenges.
  • Willingness to engage across high-level strategic ownership and operational details in a startup environment.
  • Strong project management and problem-solving skills, especially in changing environments with competing priorities and complex stakeholders.
  • Outstanding communication skills, particularly the ability to articulate industry jargon and technical topics to cross-functional nontechnical audiences.
  • Ability to create a positive work environment for diverse team members.
  • Passion for the energy transition.
Responsibilities
  • Design an organization that can scale while executing professional construction operations across multiple sites.
  • Design, test, and roll out processes for operationally efficient communication and collaboration across a geographically dispersed team.
  • Own the team recruiting, training, and onboarding engine supporting fleet expansion while maintaining a high quality bar.
  • Set and protect execution quality standards and build a culture of first-principles thinking.
  • Own team adherence to safety programs, regulatory compliance, engineering guidance, and company policies.
  • Lead the Operations Engineering team in drilling program design, project planning, issue resolution, and technical oversight of execution.
  • Lead the Reliability Engineering team in fleet asset ownership, including reliability-centered maintenance, failure analysis, spares strategy, and capital planning.
  • Partner with the technology development team to test and deploy new digital, telemetry, and automation technologies, and provide field feedback.
  • Oversee project profit and loss for high-quality, cost-effective drilling projects and drive the operating rhythm for operational planning and execution.
  • Own drilling crew performance, including compliance with health, safety, and environmental policies, engineering guidance, and professionalism standards.
  • Lead safety culture and health, safety, and environmental incident prevention.
  • Oversee Deployment Operations to secure permits and licenses, manage procurement and logistics, fulfill regulatory and customer reporting, and build scalable systems for these processes.
  • Own project delivery feasibility assessments across technical and operational factors for Commercial project selection and bidding processes.
  • Execute field delivery within the technical architecture, safety guidance, and readiness standards set by the Chief Innovation Officer, escalating complex domain challenges and flagging execution trade-offs.
  • Partner with Product, Strategy, and Finance to identify and execute initiatives for continuous project margin improvement.
  • Collaborate with company leadership and functional owners to prioritize and invest in new operational capabilities as the company grows.
  • Provide input to the Chief Innovation Officer on evolving technical and operational boundaries as the automation program and field organization scale, and flag friction points for review.
  • Define and own key performance indicators, team architectures, investment priorities, and risk matrices.
Desired Qualifications
  • A graduate degree in a management-related field.
  • Experience building operational playbooks, systems, and organizations for a new product or market entry.

About the company

Bedrock Energy designs, drills, and installs geothermal systems for buildings, providing end-to-end geothermal heating and cooling. Its core product uses ground-source heat pumps paired with borehole fields to exchange heat with the earth, with data-driven algorithms that optimize borehole performance for long-term efficiency. The company differentiates itself by delivering integrated MEP design, energy financing, and construction partnerships, plus faster borehole construction and ongoing service under long-term agreements, all aimed at reliable, cost-saving HVAC for real estate projects. The goal is to make geothermal energy affordable and widely usable across diverse properties by delivering sustainable, emission-free heating and cooling with clear energy savings.

What believers are saying

  • Bedrock closed a $12 million Series A on January 22, 2025, led by Titanium Ventures.
  • Penn Field proved commercial delivery in Austin, finishing a 35-ton system in three months.
  • Hayden’s district project won support from Colorado agencies and Town of Hayden in 2025.

What critics are saying

  • Bedrock still depends on custom drilling economics; a single failed project kills margins.
  • Hayden’s phased build runs through 2028, exposing Bedrock to delayed revenue and permit risk.
  • No defensible software moat is proven yet; larger geothermal and drilling firms can copy features.

What makes Bedrock Energy unique

  • Bedrock pairs autonomous drilling with subsurface simulation, not just heat-pump installation.
  • Its Houston-style oilfield drilling expertise enables 1,000-foot boreholes in dense urban parcels.
  • The Hayden, Colorado district project positions Bedrock as infrastructure partner, not vendor.
