Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • For assignment to a Title I school, meet the employment requirements outlined by the Every Student Succeeds Act and have either six documented semester hours of coursework in childhood education or two years of work experience in a childhood setting.
  • Have considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint, as well as Google Apps.
  • Have working knowledge of successful instructional delivery methods and the core subjects at the assigned grade level.
  • Be able to recognize and support students with diverse backgrounds, learning abilities, and learning styles.
  • Be able to protect the confidentiality of personally identifiable information in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act and other applicable laws, policies, and regulations.
  • Be able to collaborate effectively with others and work in a team environment.
  • Be able to motivate students and continuously supervise their safety and well-being.
  • Be able to communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written form using varied communication techniques and tools.
  • Be able to implement academic and behavioral interventions as needed.
  • Be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school staff, students, parents, businesses, community agencies, and the public.
  • Hold and maintain Crisis Prevention and Intervention certification when required by the school and student population; training is provided if needed.
Responsibilities
  • Assist teachers with instructional activities and duties that implement the total school program.
  • Help teachers ensure an encouraging, caring, safe, and healthy environment for students.
  • Assist teachers with planning and organizing, evaluating instructional activities, developing classroom procedures, and preparing lesson materials.
  • Work with individual students or specific groups of students in different classrooms or school areas as needed.
  • Demonstrate the professional and technical skills necessary to function effectively in the classroom and support the school program.
  • Participate in district staff development and continued professional growth in the assigned area.
  • Maintain a positive disposition, exercise good judgment, and remain calm when dealing with students.
  • Perform vision and hearing screenings when assigned and enter results into the Electronic Access Student Information System.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
