Requirements
  • Current certification from the New York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services as a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor Trainee.
  • At the time of appointment and during employment in this title, employees must possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State.
  • Candidates may be subject to a background investigation.
Responsibilities
  • Learn to interview and screen individuals seeking admission to substance use disorder treatment programs.
  • Assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating an individualized treatment plan for each patient.
  • Assist in providing individual and group counseling services.
  • Help monitor patient progress and make recommendations for further treatment when necessary.
  • Assist in conducting education and information sessions.
  • Counsel patients regarding job training and placement, advise them of available social services, and refer them to other agencies when necessary.
  • Maintain patient records and reports consistent with professional and regulatory standards for clinical care and billing for services.
  • Monitor the collection of patient urine samples and keep pertinent records.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and clinic staff regarding patient progress and patient services.
