What believers are saying

  • Namaspay launched in 2024 and monetizes tourists with fees, not subsidies.
  • UPI tourism volumes keep rising, expanding Fam’s addressable market in India.
  • Fam’s 2021 funding still supports runway while management pursues sustainability.

What critics are saying

  • Fam cut 18 jobs in 2025 after earlier 2023 layoffs; morale stays fragile.
  • Kush Taneja’s 2025 exit signals founder churn and leadership instability.
  • PhonePe and Paytm already serve foreign UPI users, compressing Namaspay’s moat.

What makes FamPay unique

  • Fam built India’s teen payments niche before rivals chased youth banking.
  • FamCard’s numberless design and parent-controlled teen UPI remain distinctive.
  • Namaspay targets foreign tourists, extending Fam beyond teenage spenders.
