Road Construction Survey Crew Chief
About the job
- At least 5 years of industry experience with surveying instruments and equipment.
- Experience with construction layout of bridges, walls, roadways, drainage structures, and utilities, including water, sewer, and power.
- Experience with Trimble equipment, including Trimble Access and Connect.
- Competence operating robotic total stations, GNSS receivers, data radios/modems, terrestrial 3D laser scanners, automatic and digital levels, and tablet PCs.
- Strong technical, measurement, and calculation skills.
- Strong listening, writing, and verbal communication skills.
- Able to work outdoors year-round in all types of weather conditions and environments and carry up to 80 pounds.
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet company motor vehicle record standards, background check, and drug screening requirements.
- Supervise a land survey crew in daily field operations collecting data for boundary, topographic, construction layout, and other surveys.
- Determine efficient plans for data acquisition in field surveys, from primary control through construction layout and as-built surveys as needed.
- Read and interpret construction drawings and plans, and understand land survey project specifications and tolerances.
- Communicate daily with project managers, engineers, and technicians about project schedules and work progress.
- Interact professionally with client representatives and landowners.
- Anticipate, prevent, and solve problems within the scope of authority.
- Collect and interpret survey data and document accurate field notes, sketches, and communications.
- Document all phases of land survey operations neatly and orderly.
- Prepare daily reports, timesheets, and other required paperwork.
- Maintain land surveying vehicles and field equipment.
- Follow company safety procedures, policies, and practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Certified Survey Technician (CST) certification.
