Requirements
  • Two years of production, quality, or safety experience in a warehouse or manufacturing setting.
  • Reading, writing, and basic math skills, along with knowledge of quality standards.
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • The ability to effectively lead meetings with employees and management.
  • Organization, time-management, analytical, and self-management skills.
Responsibilities
  • Perform all required tasks safely while following established safety rules and procedures.
  • Keep the work area clean and organized according to 5S standards.
  • Follow applicable food-service policies and procedures.
  • Follow personal protective equipment policies, including requirements for steel-toed shoes, hearing protection, safety glasses, and hair or beard nets.
  • Ensure corporate and plant safety policies and procedures are followed and escalate issues to the supervisor.
  • Report and document quality issues for machine operators, supervisors, and upper plant management.
  • Collect and catalog samples from designated machines.
  • Perform random audits of skids and bales of finished goods to determine product quality.
  • Perform quality testing in the quality assurance laboratory, including paper tensile strength, handle strength, ink rub resistance, bar-code scanning, and basis-weight testing.
  • Maintain compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Environmental Protection Agency regulations.
  • Assist with internal audits and inspections and enter information into the appropriate safety systems.
  • Participate in weekly safety meetings and the plant safety committee, assisting with group goals and objectives.
  • Assist with safety training for shipping, receiving, and production employees.
  • Send daily summaries of safety and quality issues at the end of each shift, including resolved issues and matters requiring escalation.
  • Oversee the GEMBA program, ensure required audits are completed, address recurring or severe problems immediately, and update the appropriate system.
  • Communicate regularly with employees at all levels, from the plant floor through Corporate Safety and Quality, using email, calls, and meetings.
  • Organize and lead food-safety certification efforts.
  • Work with the Corporate Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager on plant safety and environmental issues.
  • Perform and document required mobile inspections.
  • Use Microsoft Excel to prepare reports and document test and audit results.
  • Assist with investigating customer complaints and resolving quality issues.
  • Conduct required training and new-employee orientation as needed.
  • Follow Food Contact Packaging Safety requirements outlined in the SQF Quality Manual and Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Monitor quality activities and ensure corporate and plant quality procedures are followed.
  • Perform and record required audits, including sanitation and security, Good Manufacturing Practices, master cleaning schedules, and glass and brittle plastics audits.
  • Investigate and analyze customer complaints and help resolve quality issues, including carrier claims, formal corrective-action responses, and root-cause analysis.

Novolex names new chief commercial transformation and strategy officer. Dan Debicella will work alongside Chuck Whittington, Novolex's chief transformation officer, who is due to retire. Packaging group Novolex has appointed Dan Debicella as chief commercial transformation and strategy officer. He will oversee the company's group-wide growth plan, help advance its commercial agenda and support integration work. Debicella will work alongside Chuck Whittington, Novolex's chief transformation officer, who is due to retire at the end of the year after more than 33 years at the company. Whittington will stay on during the handover period to support continuity in integration efforts. According to the company, Debicella will work with teams across the organisation to reinforce commercial functions and introduce more uniform sales processes, aiming to "accelerate" growth. Novolex CEO and chairman Stan Bikulege said: "Dan is a proven transformation leader who delivers measurable results. "He has strengthened commercial execution and scaled performance across multiple companies. He will sharpen our commercial capabilities and help us move faster, execute better and deliver stronger outcomes for our customers, employees and stakeholders." Debicella has more than 25 years of experience in transformation and growth roles in several industries. Most recently, he was president of the Graphics Solutions Division at SGS & Co. Before that, he oversaw enterprise strategy and commercial transformation efforts at Serta Simmons Bedding and Young's Market Company. Earlier in his career, Debicella worked at Bridgewater Associates, PepsiCo and McKinsey & Company on strategy and transformation programmes.
