Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA required; MBA or advanced degree a plus
  • 12+ years of progressive revenue accounting experience, including Big 4 public accounting and in-house executive or senior leadership roles at a public company
  • Deep subject matter expertise in ASC 606 and US GAAP, including complex multi-element arrangements, variable consideration, licensing, and SaaS/technology business models; ASC 326 (CECL) experience strongly preferred
  • Hands-on technical writer and communicator: must independently research, draft, and defend accounting memos on complex ASC 606, CECL, and other US GAAP topics — this is a personal output expectation, not a delegated team function; demonstrated experience arguing positions directly with Big 4 auditors and SEC reviewers
  • Demonstrated executive leadership experience owning a global revenue accounting function, including revenue close, revenue operations, deals desk, contract review, and external reporting in a public company environment
  • Hands-on experience with NetSuite Advanced Revenue Management (ARM); ability to configure, optimize, and troubleshoot ARM revenue recognition rules and schedules; demonstrated interest in and experience with AI tools (e.g., generative AI, AI-assisted analytics, workflow automation) to drive efficiency and accuracy in accounting and reporting processes; strong analytics orientation — experience building and interpreting revenue cohort analysis, ARR/MRR bridges, bookings-to-revenue waterfalls, and disaggregation reports
  • Track record of building and scaling high-performing global revenue accounting teams; proven experience designing organizational structures and developing talent pipelines and succession plans
  • Exceptional communication skills and executive presence: able to independently write clear, well-reasoned technical accounting memos, present complex positions to CFO and Audit Committee, and persuasively argue accounting conclusions directly with external auditors and SEC reviewers
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with demonstrated success partnering with Sales, Legal, IT, FP&A, and external auditors
Responsibilities
  • Own and drive ChargePoint’s entire global revenue function — from technical accounting and CECL reserves to ERP-based revenue automation, AI-powered process improvement, deep analytics, deals desk operations, contract review, and revenue operations
  • Set strategic direction for revenue accounting, ensure full compliance with ASC 606 and ASC 326 (CECL), and serve as a key business partner to the C-suite, Sales, Legal, IT, General Accounting, and FP&A on all matters affecting revenue recognition, deal structuring, and operational scalability
  • This is a hands-on leadership role where the expectation is deep personal involvement in technical accounting research, memo writing, deal review, and system work alongside team leadership
  • Architect and continuously improve ChargePoint’s revenue infrastructure, enabling the company to scale across new product lines, regions, and go-to-market channels
  • Build and lead the Revenue Desk and Deals Desk functions, providing real-time technical guidance to Sales, Legal, and Finance on deal structuring, non-standard terms, and revenue impact analysis prior to contract execution
  • Own the contract review process, partnering with Legal and Sales Ops to evaluate revenue accounting implications of new and amended customer agreements at scale
  • Drive deep revenue analytics — including cohort analysis, disaggregation reporting, bookings-to-revenue bridge, ARR/MRR tracking, and ad hoc analysis to support executive decision-making and investor relations
  • Lead revenue operations, including month-end close, flux analysis, reconciliations, and coordination with General Accounting and FP&A on revenue forecasts and actuals; own all revenue-related external disclosures including 10-Q/K footnotes, disaggregation tables, and MD&A commentary
  • Partner with IT and Systems teams to lead the strategic roadmap for revenue automation and AI adoption — identifying and deploying AI tools to increase efficiency, improve accuracy, enhance analytics, and automate reporting across the revenue function; leverage NetSuite ARM and other financial technologies to eliminate manual effort at scale; support M&A due diligence, purchase accounting for revenue-related items, and integration of acquired entities
  • Monitor emerging accounting standards (FASB, SEC) and lead the company’s assessment and implementation of new guidance; develop and maintain global revenue accounting policies ensuring consistent application across all business units, geographies, and go-to-market channels; build, mentor, and develop a world-class global revenue accounting team with clear organizational structure, career paths, and succession plans

What believers are saying

  • Q1 fiscal 2027 revenue hit $102 million, marking 4% year-over-year growth and three consecutive quarters of expansion.
  • Subscription revenue grew 7% to $41 million, reinforcing its capital-light, software-centric business model.
  • New partnerships with Optimus and Powers Parts add 200+ fast chargers in the Southeast and target transit fleet electrification.

What critics are saying

  • Unpatched remote code execution vulnerability CVE-2026-4156 in Home Flex chargers enables root-level attacks within 3–6 months.
  • Electrify America and Tesla aggressively expand DC fast charging in highway corridors, undercutting ChargePoint's level 2 dominance in 6–12 months.
  • Networked Charging Systems revenue fell 8.6% over two years, exposing overreliance on hardware sales amid rising price competition.

What makes ChargePoint unique

  • ChargePoint dominates 70% of North America's networked level 2 charging market, seven times its closest competitor.
  • Its capital-light model focuses on software subscriptions and hardware sales without heavy physical asset investment.

HUD's tech chief appears headed for Interior.

HUD's tech chief appears headed for Interior. The expected pick would replace the agency's recently departed technology chief and continue a string of leadership changes. July 9, 2026 Department of Housing and Urban Development Chief Information Officer and Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer Eric Sidle is expected to soon take up the Department of Interior's top tech post after the latter agency's CIO departed, according to two people familiar with the matter. He is finalizing the paperwork process and could be onboarded in the next one to two weeks, said both people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the selection has not been made public. Sidle joined HUD in May 2025 after serving in the private sector for a number of years in a variety of tech-specific roles. He previously worked for two years at tech consulting firm Fabrum Advisors as a technology advisor, operating partner and coach. Prior to that position, Sidle oversaw autonomous driving hardware at NIO, served as chief technology officer at ChargePoint and worked as an engineering manager for special projects at Apple. Interior's prior CIO Paul "Macca" McInerny - a former SpaceX engineer that aligned himself with the Department of Government Efficiency's mission - left the department last week after just over a year in the role, with a top strategy official at the agency, Matt Luby, tapped as interim CIO, Nextgov/FCW reported Monday. One suspected source of frustration under McInerny involved the department's effort to consolidate and speed up permitting systems - including systems tied to Bureau of Land Management leasing and energy development - that would likely demand significant overhauls to the agency's IT stack. HUD and Interior spokespeople did not return multiple requests for comment. Sidle has publicly discussed his push to bolster anti-fraud initiatives while at HUD, an effort that aligns with the Trump administration's broader "war on fraud." Speaking at the Government Service Delivery conference in Washington, D.C., last month, Sidle said HUD's outdated technologies and disparate databases made it difficult to identify companies gaming the agency's programs, noting that the median age of its systems was 20 years. "Across different agencies, we're now talking about how we're going to be dealing with data sharing, Delta Sharing and all this other stuff," he said, adding that "even before AI, just the basics of data analytics wasn't being done - let alone now you have AI, which is going to take off and be able to protect this."
