Walmart commits $6B to Symbotic to automate 25 distribution centres

Walmart has signed an expanded agreement with Symbotic, committing about $6 billion to automate 25 US regional distribution centres. The money will also support wider supply chain projects over several years. The spend points to a heavy bet on warehouse robotics and e-commerce inventory management, aimed at denser storage, faster fulfilment, and lower long-term operating costs. Because the deal is capital intensive and spread over years, its near-term effect on results is likely limited. Walmart also bundled its Walmart+ and Sam's Club Plus memberships for $120 a year, leaning further into recurring fee income.

Symbotic and Kraken Robotics: two robotics stocks to buy before 2027

A Motley Fool columnist predicts robotics will be the biggest driver of industrials stocks in 2027, and names Symbotic and Kraken Robotics as two buys before then. Symbotic makes warehouse automation robots and software. Walmart accounts for over 90% of its sales. Last quarter, revenue rose 21.7% year over year to $720.84 million, and net income hit $55 million, against a $21 million loss a year earlier. The stock is down 56% from its peak. Kraken Robotics, a Canadian company, makes batteries and sensors for underwater drones, including Anduril's Dive-LD and Dive-XL. Its shares are down about 61% from their March high, amid doubts over its C$615 million acquisition of the Covelya group.

Symbotic stock risk: revenue growth slows to 20.6% as shares fall 40.8%

Symbotic's sales growth is slowing, which is the main worry for holders of the automated warehouse systems seller. Revenue rose 20.6% in the twelve months ended June 2026, down from 133.6% in 2023, 56.9% in 2024, and 35.7% a year later. The stock fell 40.8% over the past year, while the S&P 500 gained 16.5%. The company only recently turned an operating profit, with a margin of 0.34% against a 1.9% loss a year earlier. Symbotic has a $22.5 billion backlog and no debt. Guidance for fiscal Q4 2026 of $700 million to $780 million implies about 20% growth. The key measure is year-on-year revenue growth in its fiscal Q4 report, expected in November 2026.

Physical AI picks: Cognex and Symbotic offer up to 48% upside as Huang urges Germany to act

Nvidia chief executive officer Jensen Huang told German industry leaders at an investment conference in Berlin that AI's next phase will happen in the physical world, in robots, cars, and production lines. "Electrons will never replace atoms," he said. A Barchart columnist picks two less obvious plays: Cognex and Symbotic. Cognex, which makes machine vision systems, agreed to buy depth-camera maker RealSense for about $500 million. Its shares are up 61% this year, and its second-quarter revenue rose 17% to $291 million. Symbotic builds warehouse robots and counts Walmart as its biggest customer. Its shares are down 30% this year, though third-quarter revenue grew 22% to $721 million and its backlog stands at about $22.5 billion.

Symbotic acquires German sortation firm cellumation to expand in Europe

Symbotic has acquired cellumation, a Bremen-based automation company behind the celluveyor, a patented, software-driven sortation system. The announcement came on October 13, 2026. No financial terms were given. The celluveyor uses hundreds of independently controlled, omnidirectional cells that move items in any direction. Symbotic says it will handle more products with higher throughput in a fraction of the space conveyors need, and could cut equipment costs. cellumation, founded in 2017 and employing more than 70 people, will keep its name and Bremen headquarters. Co-founders Hendrik Thamer and Claudio Uriarte will stay on to lead it. The deal follows Symbotic's purchases of ARMS Innovations and Fox Robotics, and strengthens its presence in Europe.
