WuXi AppTec added to Pentagon's Chinese military list, vows to challenge 'erroneous designation

WuXi AppTec has been added to the Pentagon's list of "Chinese military companies", escalating tensions between the pharmaceutical manufacturer and the US. The Department of Defence updated its Section 1260H list on 8 June, adding WuXi alongside other Chinese firms including BYD and Comac. The DoD claims WuXi has links to China's State Administration for Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence and the People's Liberation Army. WuXi strongly denied the designation, calling it "clearly a mistake" and stating it is not owned, controlled or affiliated with any Chinese military or government entity. The contract research and manufacturing organisation, which operates in over 30 countries, reported revenues of $1.83 billion in Q1 2026, up 39.4% year-over-year. WuXi was previously removed from the BIOSECURE Act in October 2025.
