Requirements
  • Must have a high school education.
  • Must have proper training without certification, or possess a valid state certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
  • One to three years of experience in a senior care community or nursing home environment is preferred.
  • Must have a good understanding of how dementia and Alzheimer’s disease can affect behavior.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of management, associates, residents, family members, and outside contacts.
  • Must possess a passion to work with and around senior citizens.
  • Must be able to work in a safe and alert manner.
  • Must take ownership for the associate’s safety and the safety of residents.
  • Must disclose any medication that might impair the ability to perform the job safely or competently.
Responsibilities
  • Provide quality care and assistance to residents in accordance with the resident philosophy, policies, and resident rights.
  • Assist residents in meeting their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.
  • Adhere to each resident’s Level of Care and notify the supervisor of changes in a resident’s condition.
  • Answer and respond to resident calls in a timely manner.
  • Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living.
  • Check residents every two hours and report findings.
  • Complete assignment sheets daily.
  • Encourage residents to attend meals in the dining room by escorting them to and from the dining room.
  • Assist residents with meals according to their individual needs and monitor changes in appetite and physical ability to eat and drink.
  • Assist with cleaning and setting the dining room as directed by the supervisor.
  • Assist with cleaning and tidying residents’ rooms as directed by the supervisor.
  • Assist with residents’ personal laundry as directed by the supervisor.
  • Establish and maintain good relationships with residents and their families.
  • Dispose of incontinent products according to Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations and company policy.
  • Use proper body mechanics when lifting and follow safety guidelines.
  • Respond to resident emergencies.
  • Work the assigned schedule.
  • Follow proper procedures for clocking in and out for shifts.
  • Follow uniform guidelines and wear a name badge daily.
  • Follow procedures for signing equipment in and out and use company-assigned equipment properly.
  • Encourage teamwork and promote the company philosophy.
  • Attend required community meetings and participate in Life Enrichment activities when able.
  • Complete all required courses in adherence with HRA University.
  • Perform the required duties on a regular and predictable basis.
  • Become familiar with reporting a missing person using the Safe Return program or equivalent.
  • Become familiar with fire evacuation procedures.
  • Help maintain a safe and secure environment for all community residents.
