Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited academic institution is required, subject to Louisiana State Board of Nursing Bachelor of Science in Nursing exception rules.
  • At least two years of experience is required.
  • An active, unencumbered nursing license in Louisiana is required.
  • Clinical experience as a registered nurse is required.
  • Faculty must maintain current licensure or privilege to practice nursing in Louisiana or a compact state and meet healthcare requirements.
  • Travel to and from class and clinical environments is required.
Responsibilities
  • Develop clinical, laboratory, and simulated clinical experiences to implement the curriculum design.
  • Facilitate learning experiences across the nursing curriculum in clinical, laboratory, and simulated clinical environments.
  • Maintain control of the learning environment and use varied teaching methods to accommodate student learning styles.
  • Provide opportunities for active student involvement through practice and application.
  • Provide and use course materials that enhance student learning and align with course policies in the syllabus.
  • Conduct laboratory experiences and supervise students in clinical agencies and patient-care areas in collaboration with staff.
  • Complete required validations and provide or coordinate student orientation for clinical experiences.
  • Make clinical assignments for students at clinical settings.
  • Conduct student conferences, evaluate ongoing clinical progress, and provide timely verbal and written feedback.
  • Communicate with the nursing program director and semester coordinator regarding issues involving students and clinical sites.
  • Comply with university and nursing unit policies.
  • Maintain evidence of faculty qualifications and current licensure or privilege to practice nursing.
  • Meet assigned classes, laboratory, and clinical commitments, including arranging coverage during absences or emergency leave.
  • Collaborate with the semester coordinator to develop clinical schedules and appropriate clinical activities.
  • Teach across the curriculum and on LSUE campuses during assigned fall, spring, summer, and intercession semesters.
  • Participate in clinical orientation as required by the institution.
  • Evaluate laboratory and clinical courses and student performance in clinical, laboratory, and simulated clinical environments.
  • Identify and advocate for services needed by students in the nursing education program.
  • Provide guidance for students' academic and personal development and promote their professional development.
  • Develop remediation plans, schedule meetings with at-risk students, follow the Student Improvement Plan process, and help students identify resources supporting their success.
  • Develop, implement, facilitate, and analyze assessments in the nursing program, individual courses, and student learning outcomes.
  • Participate in compliance with the Nurse Practice Act, Louisiana State Board of Nursing rules, Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing rules, and other regulations.
  • Communicate nursing and university policies.
  • Participate in systematic program evaluation, policy and organizational framework revisions, curricular revisions, and nursing faculty committees.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Nursing Program Director.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. or Doctorate in Nursing Practice or Ph.D. in Nursing from a regionally accredited academic institution.
  • At least five years of experience.
  • An active, unencumbered nursing license in Louisiana and clinical experience as a registered nurse.
