Requirements
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with all members of the healthcare team.
  • Must be sufficiently flexible to perform a variety of duties, some or all of which may undergo frequent change.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check, as well as pass any state-specific abuse/fraud registry checks.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must have successfully completed an accredited Nursing Assistant Program and be currently licensed by the professional licensing entity for Certified Nursing Assistant in Washington state.
  • Maintains current CPR/BCLS certification at all times.
  • Long Term Care Experience is preferred but not required.
  • Must complete a pre-hire and annual tuberculosis test screening.
  • Annual employee health screening required.
  • Annual tuberculosis test required.
  • Annual influenza vaccine required. Only exception is for employees with a medical or religious exemption approved by Administration. Employees with an approved medical or religious exemption must wear a mask at all times during the flu season.
  • Work will require lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling up to 100 pounds.
  • Education and Experience, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, and Medical Screening: Knowledge of HIPAA regulations, ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of age-specific patient demographics and needs.
  • Ability to perform simple calculations.
  • Reasoning ability including good judgment and decision-making.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and follow instructions in English.
  • Experience in healthcare setting and observation of vital signs as per plan of care.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all members of the healthcare team.
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Engaging/communicating with residents on an ongoing basis to develop a trusting, cordial relationship with the residents.
  • Observing residents, and taking vital signs as per plan of care.
  • Reporting any health issues and changes of conditions immediately to the supervising nurse.
  • Taking care of a resident’s personal hygiene, including assisting with showers/baths, shaving, hair care, nail care, etc.
  • Remind and/or assist residents with toileting as per care plan.
  • Emptying catheter bags.
  • Monitoring vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, pain level, and weight as assigned.
  • Serving meals, clear dining area, meal tray delivery to resident’s room as approved by licensed nurse.
  • Making beds, changing linens, making laundry ready and available for laundry aide.
  • Keeping the residents’ space tidy on an ongoing basis, to include washing dishes in the resident’s unit, discarding food older than 3 days, etc.
  • Assisting the resident to activities, meals, etc.
  • Provide CNA care as identified in the Resident’s Care Plan and as directed by the supervisor.
  • Report any resident’s refusal of care or any change in condition to the licensed nurse, Wellness Coordinator or Director of Nursing Services or to the med tech if no LN available.
  • Maintain a safe environment with working knowledge of emergency equipment and appropriate usage as necessary.
  • Consistently demonstrate principles and practices of infection control in the performance of duties.
  • Identify any potential abuse situations and report immediately to the licensed nurse or Wellness Coordinator or Director of Nursing Services and call state abuse hotline.
  • Complete documentation of care provided and other required documentation must be completed before reporting off of assigned duty.
  • Refer inquiries for circumstances beyond scope of practice, knowledge and skills, to the appropriate person (see number 2 for particular staff).
  • Know and observe HIPPA regulations in the dissemination of resident information.
  • Participate in general monthly in-services up to 12 in-service hours per year.
  • Participate in self-evaluation.
  • Maintain established standards of care within the scope of CNA practice.
  • Recommend program change and development; equipment, environmental or personnel changes that streamline the operation without negatively impacting quality of care.
  • Know and utilize community policies and procedures.
  • Participate in and/or attend organization sponsored and external community events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
