Requirements
  • A Master of Science or Doctor of Philosophy degree in robotics, engineering, mathematics, computer science, or a related discipline.
  • Real-world experience with classical motion planning for one or more robots, including search-based, sampling-based, or optimization-based approaches such as A*, RRT/PRM, trajectory optimization, and model predictive control, carried onto hardware.
  • Real-world experience with behavior planning using finite state machines, behavior trees, or comparable behavior architectures for long-horizon tasks, including failure detection and recovery.
  • Familiarity with classical artificial intelligence task planning such as STRIPS, PDDL, and HTN, or decision-theoretic planning such as MDP and POMDP.
  • Proficiency in Python and C++ programming, using current software development practices and tooling.
  • Ability to identify problems, prioritize them, and plan and execute working solutions.
Responsibilities
  • Own the autonomy stack above the controller, including task planning, behavior planning, path planning, and trajectory planning, from work arrival through trajectories handed off to motion control.
  • Design behavior architectures for long-horizon manipulation and navigation tasks that support retry, recovery, and operator handoff.
  • Apply task planning to industrial workflows, including goal and precedence reasoning, task allocation, and planning under uncertainty.
  • Plan and coordinate motion for multiple robots sharing an industrial facility, including separation, reservation, deconfliction, and deadlock-free repositioning.
  • Integrate large language model and vision-language model reasoning into planning for task decomposition, subtask grounding, and language-conditioned goals, with verification and fallbacks for safe execution on real hardware.
  • Define the interface between learned policies and classical planning, including model decision boundaries, planner guarantees, and mid-task handoffs.
  • Interface with perception, intelligence, controls, simulation, and platform software teams to design functional architectures for real-world operation.
  • Measure field performance through cycle time, success rate, and intervention rate using simulation, replay of recorded robot logs, and testing on real robots.
Desired Qualifications
  • Practical experience fine-tuning and integrating large language models or vision-language models for task planning, including grounding model output in executable, verifiable plans.
  • Experience with multi-robot coordination at fleet scale, including task allocation and assignment, traffic management, deconfliction, and multi-agent path finding.
  • Experience with mobile manipulation, coordinating a mobile base and one or more arms toward a single task.
  • Familiarity with Robot Operating System 2 and fleet interface standards such as VDA5050.
  • Familiarity with planning and kinematics libraries such as Drake, OMPL, or MoveIt.
  • Experience evaluating planners in simulation and against replayed field logs, including regression testing as planners change.
  • A track record of carrying autonomy from a working demonstration to sustained field operation.
  • Familiarity with functional safety concepts.

Maven Robotics develops general-purpose, AI-powered industrial robots and autonomous systems designed for a wide range of factory and logistics tasks. Their platform blends advanced hardware with artificial intelligence to deliver autonomous robots that combine strength, adaptive dexterity, and fluid mobility, suitable for diverse industrial settings. Unlike task-specific robots, Maven targets a broad platform that can handle multiple applications, aiming to be easier to use and more cost-effective for businesses of all sizes. The company differentiates itself through a Silicon Valley engineering pedigree, a team with former Apple engineers and researchers, and a strategy of partnering with global manufacturers and logistics providers. Their goal is to make advanced automation accessible by delivering scalable, adaptable robotic solutions that boost efficiency and expand automation possibilities for customers.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • The 2026-07 careers page shows active hiring across hardware and AI roles.
  • Maven says it works with large manufacturing and logistics organizations.
  • NVIDIA IGX Thor integration was publicized in 2025, signaling industrial-robot credibility.

What critics are saying

  • No public customer deployments, revenue, or shipment volumes exist on Maven's 2026-07 site.
  • Only 2024 seed funding is public; a rumored 2026 Series A remains unconfirmed.
  • If Maven misses a production robot by 2027, fundraising collapses and the startup dies.

What makes Maven Robotics unique

  • Maven Robotics sells general-purpose industrial robots with adaptive dexterity and fluid mobility.
  • Its 2026-07 website emphasizes physical AI plus safe operation beside people.
  • The team is still tiny, but job posts span perception, manipulation, controls, and MLOps.
