Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field is required.
  • At least 10 years of progressive payroll leadership experience is required, including ownership of multi-state United States payroll and exposure to global payroll operations.
  • Experience leading payroll teams and operating within an outsourced or managed-services payroll model is required.
  • Strong understanding of payroll accounting, internal controls, audit requirements, and Sarbanes-Oxley-aligned processes is required.
  • Experience managing the payroll implications of equity compensation, including restricted stock units and stock options, taxation, withholding, deposits, and reporting, is required.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll-related reporting and reconciliations is required.
  • Experience with major payroll platforms and human capital management and enterprise resource planning integrations is required.
  • The role requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment under pressure, the ability to meet payroll and financial close deadlines, executive presence, strong communication skills, and effective cross-functional partnership.
  • The role requires willingness to plan time off around payroll cycles, year-end processing, and critical business initiatives.
Responsibilities
  • Define and execute the global payroll strategy, operating model, and governance framework while balancing global consistency with local regulatory requirements.
  • Lead and develop the global payroll team.
  • Own payroll governance, internal controls, and risk management, ensuring audit readiness and compliance across all jurisdictions.
  • Manage relationships with payroll managed-services partners, including service-level agreements, key performance indicators, escalations, and quarterly business reviews.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of salary changes, bonuses, commissions, equity-related payments, leaves, deductions, garnishments, severance, and one-time payments.
  • Partner with Accounting on payroll accruals, balance-sheet reconciliations, variance analysis, and financial-reporting impacts.
  • Partner with Treasury on payroll funding cycles, banking relationships, and liquidity planning tied to payroll and equity settlement activity.
  • Oversee payroll aspects of equity compensation, including coordination with Stock Administration on restricted stock unit vesting, stock-option exercises, and other taxable equity events.
  • Ensure correct tax withholding, timely payroll-tax deposits, and accurate equity-compensation reporting based on award type and settlement timing.
  • Oversee United States, Canadian, and other global year-end payroll reporting and filings.
  • Manage payroll-related compliance activities, including multi-state registrations, employment-tax requirements, audits, and government inquiries.
  • Serve as the executive escalation point for complex payroll issues and employee inquiries.
  • Drive payroll technology optimization, integration, and process improvements with human resources information systems, enterprise resource planning, and Finance systems teams.
Desired Qualifications
  • An advanced degree is preferred.
  • A Certified Payroll Professional designation or similar certification is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Namely HR or Ceridian Dayforce is a plus.
