American Battery Technology

View

American Battery Technology focuses on securing battery material supplies through three main activities: recycling used lithium-ion batteries, extracting metals from battery materials, and developing primary mineral resources. Its products and services enable the batteries that power electric vehicles, grid storage, and consumer electronics while promoting environmental and ethical sourcing. The company recovers valuable metals from spent batteries, processes them for reuse, and pursues new mineral resources to feed the battery supply chain. Unlike firms that rely solely on mining or recycling, ABAT combines advanced recycling, metal extraction technologies, and new mine development to create a more integrated, responsible supply of battery materials. The overarching goal is to provide a stable, ethical, and environmentally sound source of critical battery materials to support electric mobility and energy storage at scale.

What believers are saying

  • FY2026 revenue reached $21.7 million, up 407%, with positive adjusted gross margin.
  • ABAT held $49.5 million cash and zero long-term debt after June 30, 2026.
  • DOE reinstated a $57 million grant in August 2026, supporting expansion and localization.

What critics are saying

  • Commerce’s August 27, 2026 black-mass directive freezes export sales if BIS denies ABAT’s exception.
  • Black mass supplied most revenue in FY2026, so an adverse BIS ruling threatens operations.
  • Tonopah Flats and the second recycling plant depend on grants, permits, and flawless execution through 2027.

What makes American Battery Technology unique

  • ABAT combines Nevada recycling with Tonopah Flats lithium mining and refining, unlike pure recyclers.
  • Ryan Melsert’s team commercialized first-of-kind black mass processing and direct domestic product sales.
  • Fast-41 designation and DOE backing compress permitting and capital formation for vertically integrated battery materials.

ABAT hits first profit with $21.7M revenue, but US export ban threatens black mass sales

American Battery Technology Company reported its first-ever adjusted gross profit of $1.7 million in fiscal year 2026, marking a sharp turnaround from a $6.2 million loss the previous year. Revenue jumped over 400% to $21.7 million, driven by higher throughput at its recycling facility. However, the US Department of Commerce has effectively banned black mass exports unless companies obtain specific exceptions. American Battery Technology has applied for an exception but is storing black mass whilst awaiting a response. The company eliminated all long-term debt and increased cash to $49.5 million as of 30 June 2026. It received a $150 million Department of Energy grant for a second recycling facility and a $10 million grant for next-generation recycling technologies.

American Battery Technology Company (NASDAQ:ABAT) reported record fiscal Q3 revenue of $7.8 million on 11 May 2026, marking a 64% increase quarter over quarter. The company achieved its first positive gross margin whilst cost of goods sold rose only 11% over the same period. On 28 April 2026, Maxim initiated coverage of American Battery with a Buy rating and $6 price target. The company develops battery materials technologies and explores for battery metals in the United States.

ABAT hits $5.1M Q2 revenue, up 1,300% YoY, as recycling drives growth

American Battery Technology Company reported $4.8 million in revenue for Q2 2026, marking a year-over-year increase of over 1,300%. Combined with interest income, the total reached $5.1 million, exceeding cash cost of goods sold of $4.9 million for the first time. Revenue growth was driven by increased processing volumes at the company's Nevada recycling facility, which became operational in early 2025. The firm is developing a second recycling facility in the Southeast US with five times the capacity of its current site. The company's Tonopah Flats Lithium Project received Fast-41 designation to accelerate federal permitting. A pre-feasibility study published in October 2025 outlines a 45-year mine life with projected annual production of 30,000 tonnes of lithium hydroxide monohydrate.
