About the company

NVIDIA designs the chips and software that power artificial intelligence and sells complete data center systems to cloud providers, AI labs, and other businesses, along with GeForce graphics cards for gamers. Its GPUs, chips that perform thousands of calculations at once, became the main hardware for AI after researchers used them to train the AlexNet image-recognition model in 2012. NVIDIA connects many GPUs with its own processors and networking gear into servers and rack-sized computers, and developers program them through its CUDA software. These systems bring in most of its sales, and it also makes chips for cars and robots. Jensen Huang co-founded NVIDIA in 1993, and it is based in Santa Clara, California.

What believers are saying

  • AI demand is still surging: data center sales rose 117% to $89 billion in the quarter ending July 2026.
  • Stock grants are worth more: shares hit a record in October 2026, up 28% for the year.
  • Engineering dominates hiring: 1,722 of NVIDIA's 2,686 job listings in October 2026 were in engineering.

What critics are saying

  • Big buyers are hedging: Meta's February 2026 agreement covers 6 gigawatts of AMD chips.
  • Financing its buyers is getting harder: lenders pushed back on NVIDIA's $500 billion chip-backed loan plan in October 2026.
  • Staff described long hours: Bloomberg's August 2024 interviews reported seven-day weeks, late nights and shouting matches.

What makes NVIDIA unique

  • Rivals must match its software too: over 7.5 million developers use CUDA and other NVIDIA tools to program its chips.
  • The CEO has a broad direct staff: Jensen Huang says over 60 people report to him, without one-on-ones.
  • People rarely leave: NVIDIA's yearly staff turnover is 3.7%, versus a 21.9% average across the tech industry.

Nvidia lags S&P 500 over 52 weeks, but analysts see 59% upside with $329 mean target

NVIDIA, valued at $5.1 trillion, has lagged the broader market over the past 52 weeks. Its shares rose 2.1%, against an 11.7% gain for the S&P 500 and a 30.8% rise for the State Street SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF. Year to date, the stock is up 11%, compared with 11.3% for the S&P 500. Shares jumped 8.7% after second-quarter results on August 26. Revenue more than doubled to $96.22 billion, and data-centre revenue reached $89 billion. NVIDIA forecast third-quarter revenue of $108 billion, plus or minus 2%. Of 52 analysts covering the stock, 48 rate it "Strong Buy." The mean price target of $328.75 implies a 59.3% premium to the current price, while the Street-high target of $515 implies 149.6% upside.

Nvidia at $5.2T: analyst calls stock a "treat" on 89% projected growth and $150B buyback

Nvidia, the largest provider of chips and hardware for the AI boom, faces a split verdict from investors. A Motley Fool columnist calls the stock a "treat," even though shares sit 15% below this month's all-time high. Revenue growth has accelerated, from 56% in the second quarter of fiscal 2026 to 106% in the second quarter of fiscal 2027. Nvidia projects an 89% jump for the fiscal third quarter, which it reports on November 17. Its board recently authorised $150 billion in share repurchases, and the stock trades at 13 times next year's profit target. Risks include the company's cyclical history, a 64% trailing net margin that has little room to rise, local opposition to data centre build-outs, and circular financing deals with AI clients.

Nvidia faces scrutiny as suspected Chinese spy got close to Jensen Huang; $4.8B chip spend probed

US intelligence agencies have concluded that Alice Huang, a senior executive at Singapore-based data centre company Megaspeed, gathered information for Beijing, according to a report on October 29. She also built a close relationship with Nvidia chief executive officer Jensen Huang. The claim comes from anonymous US officials; no charges have been reported, and the report accuses Jensen Huang of nothing. A Malaysian sister company of Megaspeed reportedly spent at least $4.8 billion on Nvidia-based equipment between June 2024 and February 2026, raising export control concerns. Nvidia said earlier allegations "were thoroughly investigated and debunked last year." Megaspeed said it hired outside counsel and will cooperate with the US government. Nvidia shares closed at $213.66 that day, down 0.8%.

Nvidia's AI factory push: analysts see $540.6B profit by 2029, 30.5% upside

NVIDIA has announced a slate of AI platforms, including the OpenShell Reference Architecture, DSX POD modular AI factories, and RTX Spark PCs. It also expanded its work with Oracle, Meta, and industrial partners to scale AI training, inference, and agent workloads. The move shows NVIDIA shifting from selling chips to supplying full AI factory blueprints. Oracle will scale its cloud superclusters with Vera Rubin NVL72 systems, Vera CPUs, and Spectrum X networking. Analysts expect revenue growth of 48.7% a year over three years. They forecast net profit rising from $192.9 billion to $540.6 billion by 2029. The consensus price target is $328.72, 30.5% above the current $228.52. Risks include large cloud customers building their own accelerators and regulatory scrutiny.

Seaport keeps Nvidia at "Sell" with $180 target, 16% below price, citing mounting competition

Seaport Research has reiterated its "Sell" rating on Nvidia, saying competitive pressures are "mounting." Analyst Jay Goldberg set a price target of $180, 16% below the $215.38 close on October 28. Goldberg also flagged Nvidia's growing financial obligations in AI, which add cyclical risks to its data-centre expansion and financing. Operations remain strong. Second-quarter fiscal 2027 revenue hit $96.2 billion, up 106% year-over-year, and data-centre revenue rose 117% to $89 billion. Nvidia guided third-quarter revenue of about $108 billion. Seaport is an outlier. Wall Street's consensus rating is "Strong Buy," with an average price target of $328.75. Seaport's target is the lowest.
